OCC today announced the appointment of Michael Kurd, Managing Director, Head of Americas Prime Financial Services at J.P. Morgan, as a Member Director to its Board of Directors. Andrej B., CEO of the OCC, addressed the rise of zero-day options (0DTEs), market growth, and OCC’s clearing modernization at FIA, Inc.'s Expo in November. Bolkovic detailed OCC’s plan to mitigate risks from 0DTEs, which expire the same day they are traded and bypass overnight margining. OCC proposes pre-funding requirements based on peak exposures to ensure stability. “The industry as a whole recognizes this is something that needs to be covered,” he said. He described short-dated options growth as controlled and widespread across retail and institutional traders. While acknowledging concerns over single-name expansion, he assured OCC’s readiness. Bolkovic also confirmed OCC’s clearing system overhaul, Ovation, is on track for a 2025 launch, following rigorous testing. Additionally, OCC is expanding options education through the Options Industry Council (OIC), offering podcasts, guides, and an online academy to enhance investor knowledge.
