Advancing reconciliation and healing between families affected by war.
关于我们
OBON SOCIETY is a non-profit humanitarian effort dedicated to the pursuit of peace. We provide the opportunity for reconciliation between families through the return of personal "non-biological" remains taken during the war. We help those who have these heirlooms and would like to return them to the rightful owners.

OBON staff visited the Consular Office of Japan in Portland to express our gratitude to Consul General Yuji Yoshioka for his support over the years, as he is retiring. We also had the opportunity to greet his successor, Consul General Ken Todoroki. We look forward to continuing our relationship and cooperation in the future. Thank you so much for your support!

Newsday featured our efforts: Thanks to Bill Donahue, we were able to host a Zoom session with high school teachers and students. One of our primary goals is to educate the next generation. Through the process of returning the Yosegaki Hinomaru (Non-Biological Human Remains), we hope to inspire young people to reflect on the importance of empathy and to understand how the impact of war continues to affect families, even 80 years later. https://lnkd.in/g5xgXpzt #OBON #Friendship #Peace #Reconciliation #Education

We had the pleasure of meeting Alan, who made the trip from Portland, Oregon, to Astoria to personally deliver Japanese items his father brought home from World War II while serving in the U.S. Army infantry. As we spoke, Alan shared heartfelt stories about his father’s deep compassion. Having grown up during the Great Depression, his father couldn’t bear to see Japanese children go hungry and often gave up his own rations to help them. During the visit, Keiko carefully examined the flag Alan brought and pointed out the many women's signatures, noting how deeply personal the item was.

The OBON staff, invited by Consul General Yuji Yoshioka, celebrated the Emperor's birthday in Portland, Oregon, with approximately 600 attendees. They expressed heartfelt gratitude for the Emperor's constant wish for the happiness of the Japanese people, as well as for the 2,685 years of heritage passed down from the first Emperor, Emperor Jimmu, to the current 126th Emperor. They sincerely hope that the peace of Japan will be passed on to future generations. #Peace #Friendship
