“I can still sort of lift a spoon to eat, but it’s a shaky, exhausting process because the ALS makes my arms too weak. My mom has recently been lifting food to my mouth for me, but we just tried out this little guy. It’s called an OBI robot, and I was lucky enough to have it on loan from our local ALS Network. It’s pretty helpful. It frees my mom to do other things and I can eat at my own pace. Erin here, diagnosed at 23 with limb onset ALS. Which means my arms were ground zero with my first symptoms. I had big tears in my eyes when she was able to get the food off the spoon. She was a rockstar from the very first bite and I know she will continue doing great with it! We all know Kerrigan is motivated by food so this is the perfect tool! This will bring her so much independence and you can tell how happy and proud of herself she is to be able to feed herself. "Eating a meal as a quadriplegic is a bit different. I usually have to eat at the pace of whoever I am with. Food almost always ends up on my chest or lap. Inevitably ruining my undeniably swaggy outfit. That is until some genius invented the Obi Robot which?gives me the autonomy to feed myself with the push of a button.
