This week, over 100 national and state organizations representing health care professionals, patient advocacy organizations, and older American organizations, sent a coalition letter in support of passage of the Treat and Reduce?Obesity?Act (#TROA) to the #SenateFinance Committee, the #HouseWaysandMeans Committee, and the #EnergyandCommerce Committee. The message was clear: "Updating Medicare’s coverage is critical for both older Americans and our country. To that end, we call on Congress to immediately pass TROA. Doing so would provide the full continuum of care and relief for the many older Americans living with obesity, making their lives safer and healthier. Please pass this important legislation to improve and save American lives—now and into the future." Read the letter here: https://lnkd.in/gdRZYXTU

New polling confirms what we’ve known—obesity care matters. 75% of voters believe that individuals with obesity should have access to effective obesity care. Obesity should be treated like any other chronic disease. The Obesity Care Advocacy Network (OCAN) most recent poll reinforces this urgent need for better access to care. As a member of OCAN, The Obesity Society is actively involved in advocating for policies that improve obesity treatment and expand access to care.
