  • OARSI Live Webinar: September 18, 2024 - Register Now! https://lnkd.in/ejCB3aCi Date:?Wednesday, September 18, 2024, 8:00-9:00 am ET Title:?Placebo, Nocebo and Contextual Effects: The Missed Link in Osteoarthritis Session Description: Placebo and nocebo effects are embodied psycho-neurobiological effects capable of producing changes at different neurobiological, bodily, perceptual, and cognitive levels. These modifications are triggered by various Contextual Factors within the therapeutic arena. Contextual factors are represented by different healing rituals and signs such as: (a) the clinician’s features; (b) the patient's features; (c) the patient-clinician relationship; (d) the characteristics of the treatment; and (e) the overall healthcare setting. These factors have been documented to directly impact musculoskeletal patients'; subjective outcomes (e.g., pain, disability), triggering placebo/nocebo effects: a positive context can improve therapeutic outcomes by producing placebo effects, while a negative context can aggravate the patients’ clinical conditions by creating nocebo effects. This presentation aims to introduce the role of contextual factors as modulators of clinical outcomes in osteoarthritis and musculoskeletal pain and to assist in their implementation in clinical practice within ethical boundaries. The presenters will highlight the patient-clinician relationship (i.e., therapeutic relationship) as a key contextual factor by providing conceptual and practical guidance on addressing it as a contextual factor with the power to influence placebo/nocebo effects. Presenters: ???????????Giacomo Rossettini, PhD, PT, Roma Sapienza University and Verona University, Italy ???????????Maxi Miciak, PhD, PT, University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada Moderator: ???????????Marco Testa, PhD, PT, University of Genoa, Campus of Savona, Italy??????????????????????????????????????????????????????
