As the temperatures dip, and the ice starts to form remember, while salting roads makes winter travel in New England safer and easier, too much salt in rivers and streams is toxic to freshwater life. Road salt in runoff also enters the groundwater that feeds public and private wells. Quit being so salty! #oars3rivers #SudburyRiver #AssabetRiver #ConcordRiver #SuAsCo #RoadSalt

Happy?#NationalGISDay! A geographic information system (GIS) is an invaluable tool, as it allows us to transform data into digestible maps. We have been using GIS to update our recreation map, which illustrates the access points, trips, trails and more on our rivers! It will be available on our website soon! #GIS?#Mapping?#ArcGIS

Congratulations Alison Field-Juma well deserved recongnition!
I'm so very honored to receive the 2024 River Legacy Award from the National Wild & Scenic Rivers System of the National Park Service! It has been such a pleasure to serve on the Sudbury, Assabet and Concord Wild & Scenic River Stewardship Council (https://lnkd.in/dZPTDBdy) for the past 15+ years as member and as the Council's Vice Chair. Such dedicated and smart people, so much achieved for our beautiful rivers, and the work continues more important than ever.

The Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy & Environmental Affairs has declared the Northeast Region of Massachusetts, which includes the SuAsCo watershed, to be a Level 3- Significant Drought. In October, Massachusetts experienced 203 brush fires across the state, a stark increase from the historic monthly average of 15. Streamflow has also dropped significantly, resulting in dry brooks and streambeds and limited fish passage. It is imperative to minimize individual water usage by taking shorter showers and only running washing machines and dishwashers on a full load. Make sure to follow any local water use restrictions.

We are so grateful to have had the support of Rep. Kate Hogan Hogan and Senator Jamie Eldridge at our 38th Annual River Cleanup this past weekend at Ice House Landing in Maynard! ?? Rep. Hogan presented OARS with a $30K earmark to support our vital water quality monitoring efforts along the Sudbury, Assabet, and Concord rivers. ?? A special moment of the day was recognizing our recently retired Executive Director, Alison Field-Juma, for her 20 years of dedicated service to the SuAsCo rivers. Alison was honored with a legislative citation for her incredible contributions to river health and advocacy. ???? Huge thanks to Rep. Hogan for her unwavering support and dedication to the protection of our rivers and the communities that depend on them. ?? Thank you to all who joined, and here’s to a cleaner and healthier watershed for all! #oars3rivers #SudburyRiver #AssabetRiver #ConcordRiver #SuAsCo #RiverStewardship
