Microsoft’s announcement today about curtailing #AI spending seems more to me like a #pivot than a white flag to their AI #competitors. Didn’t they just announce a new #Quantum computing chip called #Majorana about a week ago, Which is named after the guy who discovered said particle? The pivot being considered is pulling spending from #AI and moving it to #quantum computing. Capital is scarce, even at a company as big as Microsoft. Perhaps they see a higher return on their investment in #quantumcomputing compared to #AI? If that were the case, I know where I’d #allocate most of the capital. ??Where it gives the highest return. Capital Allocation 101, but scaled up to trillions of dollars. Makes more sense to me than Microsoft retreating on #AI. What do you think? Drop. A. Comment! DeepSeek just released its MIT-licensed LLM, but there’s a big problem—it doesn’t meet Open Source Initiative (OSI) standards because the training data is undisclosed. No transparency means: ?? No underlying training data = #NOT open source I don’t care for the #disenginuity from #Deepseek so far. They’ve used #illegal black market chips in the training of their model. At least a sample of the underlying #training #data would be a step in the right direction. How about it folks? Deepseek is a program that runs on data. No data = #NOT open source In the age of AI the line is blurred between the two anyway. This feels like someone exploiting a #nuance to gain market share. Still don’t like it. It #stinks, in fact. But that would change (a little) if Deepseek put out some of the data in the GitHub repo, Along with the code. So I could modify it. You know, open source software. Not this stuff. Just sayin’ ??
