In Spring of 2022, with support from the Hellman Foundation and the Walter & Elise Haas Fund, Oakland Thrives launched the Youth Joy and Wellness Fund in collaboration with Philanthropic Ventures Foundation - a rapid-response grantmaking fund to support youth mental health and wellness. We distributed over $220,000 to 27 schools and organizations in about 2 weeks, supporting programs and special events that created safe spaces for young people to express themselves, strengthen their self-efficacy, and build wellness skills.
