Thank You Oakland. We had an amazing Main Library Open House, Saturday, February 22, with a wonderful day celebrating the re-opening of the Main Library. From opening to closing, the day was filled with performances, activities, programs and workshops for all ages. Whether it was watching a Lion Dance performance, viewing the exhibits, participating in a digital scavenger hunt, or learning DJing skills, we loved connecting with our community in the newly renovated Main Library. Last week, we celebrated the reopening of the Main Library with a ceremonial ribbon cutting alongside City of Oakland leadership, community partners, contractors, and everyone who contributed to the renovation. At Eat. Learn. Play., partnerships are at the heart of what we do—and our friends at Oakland Public Library are one of the key partners helping to bring our Little Town Library program to life! Together with Black Cultural Zone, Oakland Literacy Coalition, and Oakland Unified School District, we’re planting these libraries across Oakland, creating spaces where kids can discover the joy of reading. Once installed, our partners work closely with the host organization to keep each library cared for and stocked with the high-quality books we provide. And at Oakland Public Library, when it’s time for a refill, they don't just show up—they roll up in style, pulling a special bike trailer packed with books! With the help of our amazing partners, Eat. Learn. Play. is proud to bring #LittleTownLibraries to neighborhoods across Oakland. Together, we’re making free, culturally affirming books accessible to kids and inspiring school and neighborhood book sharing to spark a lifelong love of reading. This was my first project with MAR CON Builders, Inc. since moving back to California ?? It has been such an absolute honor to serve the City of Oakland and Oakland Public Library as Project Manager to the Oakland Main Library Renovation! Huge thank you to my team John Manning, Chris Vasquez Ortiz, Isabella Lau, as well as every subcontractor that has contributed to this project. The difference it makes when you feel like you’re contributing to the community, and making a difference. I’m so proud to have joined Mar Con, that is what we are all about here; giving back and making a difference!
