Adopt a Senior Pet Month ???? Why adopt a senior? Senior cats and dogs have been around the block a few times, and that gives them a leg up, as they come with a lot of perks: Seniors are a lot calmer since the antics of youth are far behind them. #veterinarian #vetlife #dogs #cats #pets #veterinarymedicine #veterinaryhospital #petstagram #oakhurstvet

Cold Weather Safety Tips Massaging petroleum jelly or other paw protectants into paw pads before going outside can help protect from salt and chemical agents. Booties provide even more coverage and can also prevent sand and salt from getting lodged between bare toes and causing irritation. Use pet-friendly ice melts whenever possible. #cold #winter #snow #nature #ice #instagood #photooftheday #travel #mountains #coldweather #naturephotography #pethealth #petsafety

Winter weather can be rough on all of us, including our furry friends. Don’t forget to consider the safety of your pets during cold weather. Bring your pets inside during cold weather. If pets cannot come indoors, you should make sure they are protected by a dry, draft-free enclosure large enough to allow them to sit and lie down, but small enough to hold in the pet’s body heat. Raise the floor a few inches off the ground and cover it with cedar shavings or straw. Turn the enclosure away from the wind and cover the doorway with waterproof burlap or heavy plastic.

Thanksgiving is almost here and that means an abundance of delicious food. However, many popular human dishes aren’t healthy for pets to consume. It’s important to remember which foods are bad for dogs and cats. Especially, during holiday meals when dogs and cats beg for table scraps and guests might fall for those cute faces. Mashed Potatoes While potatoes are safe for pets to eat, mashed potatoes usually contain butter and milk, which can cause diarrhea in lactose-intolerant pets. Additionally, some recipes call for onion powder or garlic, both of which are toxic to pets. ??STUFFING ??HAM ?? CHOCOLATE DESSERTS ??TURKEY BONES ??MASHED POTATOES ??SALADS w/ GRAPES/RAISINS

Giving Liquid Medication To Your Cat The easiest way to give your cat liquid medication is to mix it in with some canned food. To ensure that the medication is actually taken, it is best to give a small amount of food that the cat is certain to eat rather than a large portion that the cat may not complete. Taking a Road Trip? Prep your pet for a long trip. Get your pet geared up by taking him on a series of short drives first, gradually lengthening time spent in the car. If you’re traveling across state lines, bring along your pet's rabies vaccination record. While this generally isn't a problem, some states require this proof at certain interstate crossings. #holidaytravel #petstraveling #veterinarian #vetlife #dogs #cats #pets #veterinarymedicine #veterinaryhospital #petstagram #oakhurstvet

Adopt a Senior Pet Month ???? Why adopt a senior? Senior cats and dogs have been around the block a few times, and that gives them a leg up, as they come with a lot of perks: They really appreciate you! These “second- hand” dogs and cats may have just lost their family or have never known love, so they seem more grateful for your love and attention than their younger counterparts. #veterinarian #vetlife #dogs #cats #pets #veterinarymedicine #veterinaryhospital #petstagram #oakhurstvet

Cold Weather Safety Tips Never shave your dog down to the skin in winter, as a longer coat will provide more warmth. If your dog is long-haired, simply trim him to minimize the clinging ice balls, salt crystals and de-icing chemicals that can dry his skin, and don’t neglect the hair between his toes. If your dog is short-haired, consider getting him a coat or sweater with a high collar or turtleneck with coverage from the base of the tail to the belly. For many dogs, this is regulation winter wear. #cold #winter #snow #nature #ice #instagood #photooftheday #travel #mountains #coldweather #naturephotography #pethealth #petsafety
