Members of our team attended the Tulsa Regional STEM Alliance Flight Night last night! We enjoyed the opportunity to support fellow #STEM advocates and continue our outreach across #Oklahoma. Highlight of the night included an incredible #drone light show! #OSUAIRE

The ISARRA 2024 conference is in the books. We had an exciting 3 days of international presentations on the OSU Tulsa campus coupled with social events at McNellie’s and Noche. We ended the event with a panel of aviation experts representing NASA, NOAA, and traditional (TUL and SWO) and UAS airports (Skyway) held at TASM underneath one of the first large scale optionally piloted vehicles from Oklahoma’s own Aeronet (AURA). How would you imagine a non-invasive method to monitor marine wildlife health conditions? OAIRE's answer: a fixed-wing aircraft fitted with a one-of-a-kind aperture.? Research and Design Engineer Daniel Gassen turned his master's thesis research into a world-first sample collection. Oklahoma isn't known for its access to abundant dolphin populations. This meant that the research team would need help from Dr. Jason Bruck at Stephen F. Austin State University and DOLPHIN QUEST. The unique partnership between marine biologists, aerospace engineers, and a dolphin sanctuary would allow for the first-ever sample capture from a fixed-wing drone. Have you seen the new #Twisters movie? Dr. Jamey Jacob provided insight into the world of chasing and intercepting tornadoes. OAIRE research has allowed for the development of new methods to collect data from active tornadoes. This approach looks different than the armored vehicles we've seen in the past but applies similar principles. The Kevlar-reinforced tornado intercepting vehicle allows researchers to launch from a safe distance and gather life-saving data.? U.S. Economic Development Administration has announced a transformative grant of approximately $51 million for our region! Awarded through Tulsa Innovation Labs and the Tulsa Hub for Equitable and Trustworthy Autonomy (#THETA), this grant includes the Oklahoma Aerospace Institute for Research and Education (OAIRE), a leader in uncrewed vehicles and aerospace and a fundamental part of The Innovation Foundation at Oklahoma State University at OSU. OAIRE will be able to leverage the proximity of the LaunchPad Center for Advanced Air Mobility for innovative research within the Tulsa area. Research like this will help develop counter-UAS detection and avoidance systems to enhance urban air mobility within densely populated areas. This will directly tie into cybersecurity efforts within Tulsa on the development of blue/green UAS. Initiatives like this will strengthen Oklahoma's position as a national leader in autonomous systems, critical technologies, and advanced manufacturing. Osage Nation, Cherokee Nation, and Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma will also be vital regional partners that will help develop assets like the Skyway Range. Another critical resource will be OSU Polytech.
