Get to know the Orchestra Institute Fellows:? Passionate about music from a young age, Núria Vizcaíno Estrada learned cello and piano. Núria holds a bachelor's degree from Conservatori Superior del Liceu in Barcelona and a MA from Limerick, Ireland, linked to the Irish Chamber Orchestra and the Libra Strings project. She has been part of chamber groups and symphonic orchestras around Europe, and has attended several music courses and masterclass to widen her knowledge in an holistic way. Joni Taskinen currently studies at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki under the guidance of Valtteri Malmivirta and Line Johannesen. As a freelancer, Taskinen has played in the top orchestras of Finland such as FRSO and the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra. According to Taskinen the best part of playing is creating magical moments together. Laureate of the OSM competition, Ka?la Stephanos completed her bachelor’s degree at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal under the guidance of Denis Bluteau in April 2024. As a soloist, she performed Vivaldi’s La Notte with the Orchestre Métropolitain of Montreal. We have assembled a wonderful faculty roster to accompany and mentor Orchestra Institute fellows during the residency in Monterrey next June. Featuring international artists: Nathaniel Anderson-Frank (Concertmaster, BBC Concert Orchestra), Ilmari Hopkins (Principal Cello, Stavanger Symphony), Kelly Zimba (Principal Flute, Toronto Symphony), José M. Redondo (Solo Tuba, Orquesta Sinfónica de Castilla y León) and Gabriela Jiménez (Solo Timpani, Orquesta Sinfónica de Minería) - who will also be one of our soloists. Get to know the 2025 Orchestra Institute Fellows: Born in Costa Rica, Esteban Madriz began his viola training at 18 years old at his town's municipal school. He later moved to the National Music Education System, where he gained the knowledge and skill to enter the National Institute of Music. He is currently guest musician with the Costa Rican National Symphony Orchestra. Lucy Rubin is an NYC-based flutist, music theorist, and educator currently pursuing a Master of Music with Linda Chesis at Manhattan School of Music. She has performed internationally, and is passionate about studying music by forbidden composers. Previously, she studied with Angela Jones-Reus at the University of Georgia. Alexsandro Stanley started musical studies at age 4 playing Euphonium in "Projeto Música de Sarzedo". In 2016, Alexsandro picked up the trombone and started taking classes with some of the greatest trombonists in Belo Horizonte, Brazil including Hélio Azevedo, 1° trombonist at OSMG, and Diego Ribeiro, 1° trombonist associated at OFMG. Piano Lab Fellows mentoring journey with Gabriela Montero is underway! As a prelude to our first official residency taking place at the end of this month in Geneva, Switzerland, some fellows traveled to Cleveland to learn from Gabriela in person, turning it into an ad-hoc mini-residency. Get to know the 2025 Orchestra Institute Fellows: Jorge Chen began flute studies with Dr. Dafne Guevara in 2021 after having met her through the camps of la Red de coros y orquestas de Panamá. Jorge has performed with different symphony orchestras and participated in 3 editions of the Monterrey International Flute Festival. Jiae Lee is a cellist from South Korea. Jiae was a graduate student who performed with remarkable musicians in the New Music Ensemble and the University Philharmonic Orchestra at the University of Missouri 2022 - 2023, where she was majoring in Cello Performance. In recognition of her achievements, she received the Leah Lou Emmons Orchestra String Award in 2023. Ricardo Hernández is a Fulbright Scholar, alumn of Conservatorio Nac. de Musica (HS), Universidad Autonoma de Santo Domingo (BA), University of Central Florida (MA) and currently pursuing a DMA degree at University of Hartford. It was a pleasure to take part in this conversation yesterday about the role of the musician in the community, representing @TheCenterforMusicEcosystems, alongside Ron Davis Alvarez from the Dream Orchestra and facilitated by Cayenna Ponchione-Bailey for 70 orchestral musician fellows from the OAcademy Music Conservatory, discussing topics including music's particular affordances and mechanisms that make it the powerful tool that it is to affect change, the concepts of value, quality and impact and what these meant to different audiences and stakeholders. Thank you for the stimulating debate and discussion on these topics that remain so timely and relevant

Our composing cohort is just returning from their fruitful residency at the Chesapeake Bay. With a schedule full of activities, the Composing Studio residency in Maryland is one to remember. Fellows had the opportunity to workshop their compositions with musicians Juliette Kang, Zach Feingold, and Clara Warnaar. They also participated in a workshop by music critic Anne Midgette focusing on crafting bios and artist statements. Gabriela Ortiz provided extensive guidance through presentations, masterclasses, and social activities, surrounded by magnificent views and blue horizons.
