O+ (pronounced “O Positive”) was established in 2010 in Kingston, NY when a small group of artist-activists, a few doctors, and a dentist came together with the idea to bring a band to town in exchange for dental work. We all benefit from the arts, and yet creative people in our communities continue to struggle with access to affordable healthcare. So we thought: What if we took money out of the system and instead valued each other’s work equally? A dental filling is as valuable as a painting, a song keeps us well like a check-up with a primary care doctor, and so on. Three months after that initial meeting, O+ Festival – and the first exchange of the art of medicine for the medicine of art – was born. Over the last 15 years, O+ has expanded in all ways. What started as a conversation between a dentist and an artist has grown into a national nonprofit working to help creatives of all stripes access health and wellness services, amplify the importance of arts, and build more resilient communities. In 2023, O+ establish The O+ Exchange Clinic as a year round expansion of the model of care at the core of our mission. O+ is headquartered in Kingston, NY, on the ancestral lands of the Munsee Lenape People. We take inspiration from their healing and well-being practices in addition to their legacy of exchange.     Submissions are NOW OPEN for artists, musicians and writers looking to participate in the 15th Annual O+ Festival in exchange for health and wellness services. Creators of all genres, mediums and modalities are invited to apply through Submittable, free of charge, now through May 4th.* Accepted submissions will be invited to participate at this year’s festival in exchange for access to health and wellness care in the O+ Artists’ Clinic.     O+ Festival returns to Kingston! SAVE THE DATE! We get asked all the time “When is O+ this year?” O+ Festival is ALWAYS on Indigenous People’s Weekend in early October. Mark your calendars and save the date for the 15th Annual O+ Festival October 10-12th, 2025! Artist and music submissions for the festival will open in early March. The theme this year is POWER. Watch this space in the days ahead for this year’s deadlines and details. Clinic Provider and ExplO+re Wellness Class submissions for the 2025 festival will follow in May.

    The O+ Festival will return to Kingston, NY for the 15th annual exchange of art, music and wellness October 10-12, 2025. Each year, the festival is curated from submissions that respond to a theme. The theme for the 2025 O+ Festival is PO+WER What is power? Who holds it? How is it sustained? When do we wield it, when do we resist it? How do we, consciously or unconsciously, uphold structures that reinforce inequitable access to it? How do we share it? What happens when it is redefined or redistributed? How do we reclaim it when attempts are made at taking it from us? Read the full curatorial Theme Statement for the 2025 O+ Festival @ opositivefestival.org/news The 15th Annual O+ Festival offers a space to reconsider power not just as something to be held, but as something to be shared, dismantled, or reframed. Submissions are welcome from artists, musicians, and writers of all mediums, genres and modalities that explore the nature of power in all of its forms, structures, expressions and complexity. We welcome work that examines how it is wielded, challenged, distributed and reimagined. The structures that sustain power, the forces that resist it, and the possibilities for its transformation. Some pieces may confront systems of dominance, exposing the weight of authority, surveillance, and inequality. Others celebrate empowerment, resilience, resistance and the transformative potential of collective action. The interplay between these perspectives underscores the fluidity of power—how it shifts, adapts, and manifests in both visible and invisible ways. Submissions will open in Early March.
