Last week, I had the privilege of attending the inaugural State of the District for Hays Consolidated Independent School District. This event held special meaning for me as it marked my first official appearance as a board member of the Hays Education Foundation. Even more exciting was the opportunity to co-chair the event and see our mission in action. As a business partner, I felt immense pride hosting this event in the brand-new Academic Support Center—an inspiring space that O'Connell Robertson had the honor of designing. It was truly a full-circle moment, planning an event in a space that my firm helped bring to life and witnessing it in action. Not only was the center used as intended, but its versatility was on full display with all the creative ways it supported the event! We were thrilled to showcase what makes Hays CISD exceptional, from the district’s CTE pathways and academic programs to extracurriculars and, of course, the stunning new Academic Services Center! Thank you to everyone who attended and supported our mission to enrich, maintain, and expand programs across the district. I have so much gratitude for the dedication of this team to make a difference with concrete design intent for Kendrick Elementary School. We cannot say enough about the critical and unwavering support of Gloria Barrera, Chief of Operations and Facilities for Waco ISD. One year ago today, we were preparing for our first Pre-Bid Mockup to train the subcontractor community on this new approach. Today we have a low carbon concrete building that required 24% less water and is on track to deliver early - using one mix design on foundations slabs and the majority of the site paving. This was not easy and required all members of the design and execution team to work through change, replacing established ways of thinking through guided practice to reinforce new habits and hit our goals. Thanks to the TxA audience for sticking around well past our hour to ask questions and learn more.
