The NYU School of Professional Studies Center for Global Affairs facilitates change by educating and inspiring our community members to become global citizens who are capable of identifying and implementing solutions to pressing global challenges. We believe that the development of solutions to global problems must be informed by an understanding that the world’s challenges are not merely challenges for and among states, but also challenges for and among non-state actors, urban and rural communities, regional organizations, and traditional diplomatic outlets. Through rigorous graduate and continuing education programs and public events, we prepare global citizens who are at home in all of these environments—and thus, who are effective agents of change.

??This past weekend over 90 New York University Masters' students participated in the ??th International Strategic Crisis Negotiation Exercise hosted by The United States Army War College at the NYU SPS Center for Global Affairs. ?? Students simulated crisis negotiations in Central Asia over a host of issues including water, defense and security, borders, foreign influence, and violent extremism. They deftly represented delegations from #Kyrgyzstan???? #Kazakhstan???? #Uzbekistan???? #Tajikistan???? #Russia???? #China???? & #India ???? and signed numerous bilateral and multilateral agreements ??. ?? Was truly inspiring to witness the enthusiasm, intellect, creativity, professionalism, and pragmatism these future leaders brought to incredibly complex and multifaceted issues. Their careful diplomacy and commitment to bridging divides helped contribute to regional stability, while still advancing the interests of those nations they represented. ?? Alumni of this program have gone on to careers in US and foreign government, the UN, NGOs, tech companies, big banks, management consulting and I am confident the vast skills they acquire through this simulation are used routinely. A BIG thanks to: ?? The incredible War College staff who make this all happen - Ed "Cliffy" Zukowski, Colonel Mike Stinchfield, & Sgt. First Class Eduardo Neris ?? Our faculty mentors: Chloe Demrovsky, Olajumoke (Jumo) Ayandele, Ph.D., W. Pal Sidhu, Christopher Ankersen, Borst, Barbara, & Danny Steed, Ph.D & ???? UN Special Representative Tamrat Samuel ??Carolyn Kissane & Michelle D'Amico who have offered their unwavering support of the exercise for 10 years! In a recent op-ed for Newsweek, CGA Adjunct Assistant Professor Michael Shank, Ph.D. and Rep. Yvette D. Clarke (D-NY) examine the far-reaching environmental, social, and economic consequences of climate migration and the impact federal disinvestment in agencies such as FEMA could have on disaster relief and preparedness across the country.
