关于我们

Great libraries are essential to great universities. They support and empower scholarship and research innovation. The NYU Division of Libraries is an eight-library, 6 million–volume system that continually enhances its on-site and online services and resources for students and faculty and expands its research collections in all formats, from paper to electronic and multimedia. NYU Libraries provides students and faculty with access to the world’s scholarship; its resources and services are central to the university community’s intellectual life. Elmer Holmes Bobst Library, which houses millions of volumes, more than 53,000 serial titles, and over 43,000 linear feet of archives, is the system's flagship library. The Libraries catalog also provides NYU’s global community with access to thousands of electronic resources. Bobst receives 10,000 visits per day and circulates 159,000 items annually. Within Bobst is the Special Collections Center, which houses the Fales Collections of literature, food studies, and New York City avant-garde culture, and the Tamiment Library/Wagner Labor Archives, internationally known and uniquely strong in the history of left politics, labor, and social protest movements. Bobst Library also contains the Avery Fisher Center for Music and Media; specialized services to assist students and faculty with digital projects and data collection/statistical computing; the Barbara Goldsmith Preservation and Conservation Department for the care of special collections materials in formats ranging from papyrus to film and tape; and more than 2,600 seats for study and computing. Seeking 2025 Summer Internship in Product Management & UX Design | MS in Management of Technology @ NYU | Product Designer | UI/UX Enthusiast | Startup Founder

Ever wondered how AI could transform your library experience? Last year, my friend AVINASH RAYUDU and I, as Team Virxon, embarked on an exciting journey at Hack Dibner 2024 to find out! Our mission? To develop an intelligent, cost-effective AI chatbot tailored for NYU Libraries. This virtual assistant aimed to provide immediate, accurate responses to common inquiries, allowing our amazing human librarians to focus on more complex tasks. We envisioned a seamless blend of technology and personalized service to enhance the user experience. While we didn’t snag the top prize, the experience was invaluable. The insights and feedback from judges and mentors were instrumental in refining our approach and deepening our understanding of AI integration in academic settings. A big shoutout to NYU Libraries and NYU Tandon School of Engineering for hosting such an inspiring event. Kudos to all the participants who showcased incredible innovations to improve our library services. Curious about the event and the brilliant ideas presented? • Discover the lost history of an NYU landmark in?Dibner Library's Spring 2025 exhibit “NYU Tandon's Wunsch Building: Telling A Lost Story,"?curated by Pranaya Raparla (Tandon '25). This exhibit?explores the building’s transformation throughout time:?from its origins as the AME Bridge Street church and a hub of Brooklyn’s abolitionist movement to its renaming under Brooklyn Polytechnic and integration into MetroTech Center. Originally an online exhibit for the Tandon Advanced Seminar "Our Archives, Ourselves," Pranaya has brought her research to life in our library exhibit space. Join us for lunch on February 26 in the landmarked Wunsch Building to learn more about this fascinating history and its ties to Brooklyn’s 19th-century abolitionist legacy. • "Heat is rising temperatures; but it isn't just that. It is also a metaphor for a simmering rage, born from generations of subjugation. Women, especially those of us deemed ‘untouchable’ and outcast, have felt this heat intimately. Though these women are crucial to our food systems and ecological balance, they remain underrepresented in climate discourse and in almost every other phase of life in India." Journalist, filmmaker, and photographer?Bhumika Saraswati?is bringing her project, Unequal Heat, to NYU Libraries. Through her lens, she documents the resilience of Dalit and Adivasi women—communities marginalized by a rigid caste system—who share a profound struggle against systemic violence and exclusion. Her work not only documents lives and narratives often overlooked, but also ignites conversations about climate justice and social equity, earning her international acclaim including the UN-Laadli Media Award for Gender Sensitive Reporting and the Human Rights Press Award. Join us at the Open House event on Monday, February 24th, from 5:30–7:30pm in Bobst Library's Chase Reading Room & Event Space (2nd Floor) for an exclusive display of Saraswati's work and insightful remarks from the artist herself. This event is co-sponsored by the Asian/Pacific/American Institute at NYU, the Center for Collaborative Indigenous Research with Communities and Lands, the NYU Office of Sustainability and NYU Gallatin. Space is limited, so be sure to register! https://lnkd.in/eZUcSAtu ?? • In the world of Pixar’s “WALL-E”, everyone (and their data) is ruled by a corporation and its spaceship AI. 700 years after an ecological disaster on Earth, humans and robots work together to take back their agency and restore the planet. While today’s robots aren’t as cute (nor sentient) as WALL-E and Eve, this film prompts us to think about how companies are allowed to take charge of our data—and with it, shape our lives. Join us on Valentine’s Day, Feb 14, for a film screening of “WALL-E”! • When and how can data about people be shared safely? Research data on people can be challenging to share because it often contains confidential information. Hidden indirect identifiers can be exploited by a skilled attacker to determine a participants’ identity. Anything from a date to a distance to a selected interview language could, in the wrong context or combination, pose risk. When sharing human participant data, it’s key to consider things like the number of responses, group size, and answers that fall on the extreme ends of a spectrum. Join Kristi Thompson (Research Data Management Librarian, Western Libraries, Western University) to explore the theory that explains why data anonymization is so difficult, discuss techniques for assessing the risk in a dataset, and learn about common issues in data anonymization. ??
