I understand the frustration of searching for an ASL-fluent therapist, only to find that their signing ability is limited to fingerspelling or basic signs. That’s why I’m working to change how mental health organizations advertise their services, by introducing a more accurate label: “Deaf ASL Fluent.” My hope is that more organizations will follow suit, making it easier to find truly fluent ASL providers in the future. Days get busy and it is easy to forget to pause for a few minutes to think about the things you are thankful for, so I am going to try this Challenge. My hope is it will help me be more centered throughout the day and it seems easy to write down 3 things. I know it has been helpful to others so it's worth a try. Day 1 I am thankful for: My husband driving me to work today, a wonderful "breakfast for lunch" potluck with my team, and the Gopher Men's hockey game tonight (Go Gophers). I’m participating in a gratitude challenge as a way to focus on the many good things in my life. The challenge includes writing down 3 things I’m grateful for every day for 21 days. It’s amazing how this has made me see more and more things to appreciate — kind drivers who stop to let the birds cross the road, how beautiful the sky is when the sun shines through the clouds and the way my dog is always happy to see me.
