With stunning views of the Catskills, Frederic Church's acclaimed artwork on display, and Persian-Gothic architecture that's as unique as its architect, it's no surprise that The New York Times has labeled Olana State Historic Site one their "must-see" parks this fall.?"Among the most striking historic sites in the Hudson River Valley," Olana offers visitors a one-of-a-kind experience that you truly cannot find anywhere else. Read more about the former home of Frederic Church and plan your next State Historic Site experience. https://lnkd.in/eX2m_Xdk

Today, flags flew at half-staff at all New York State offices to honor Dariel Vasquez, who died battling the Jennings Creek wildfire in Greenwood. A 2024 graduate of Ramapo High School, Vasquez joined our agency in June. He was a dedicated, reliable worker who loved his job and was looking forward to college and to a bright future. His loss is deeply felt throughout Parks. We extend our condolences to his family, friends, and community. We join them in mourning this indescribable loss.

The only Seneca town developed and interpreted in the United States. The only New York State historic site devoted solely to Indigenous heritage and culture. There are a lot of superlatives about Ganondagan State Historic Site, but somehow, they still don't capture it all. Ganondagan not only explores the history of New York's Indigenous people, but uplifts its present and future. The 600-acre site includes a cultural center with changing exhibits and a multipurpose room, a reconstructed Seneca longhouse open seasonally, and interpretive trails. It has been under Indigenous leadership since its establishment in 1987, and offers regular programs and events on history, art, food, music, storytelling and more. Visit www.ganondagan.org to see what's coming up.
