It's Rural Health Day! People in rural areas often face challenges getting addiction treatment due to long distances or transportation options. To improve access, OASAS has focused on a number of initiatives, such as mobile units, harm reduction supply distribution, the expansion of outpatient services and certified community behavioral health clinics. We also provide direct treatment through 12 state-run Addiction Treatment Centers. “People in rural areas have historically faced barriers trying to access addiction care, and we continue to work hard to expand and enhance vital services in these areas," said OASAS Commissioner Dr. Chinazo Cunningham. "Working with our partners in government, and in local communities, New York State is focused on continuing these important efforts so that all New Yorkers, no matter where they live, have access to the services and resources they need to keep themselves and their family healthy.” Every individual deserves access to essential services and support to thrive and lead a healthy life. #RuralHealthDay

#ICYM: A new partnership with New York University is set to transform how we evaluate the impact of Opioid Settlement Funds in New York State. It involves three key elements - research and evaluation, data analysis and collaboration. It presents data from 2002 to 2022 on drug injection reported by individuals who were admitted to SUD treatment in New York State. Specifically, this bulletin examines annual changes in drug injection reported at SUD treatment admission by race and ethnicity, birth cohort, NYS region (New York City [NYC] compared to the Rest of State [ROS]), and type of drugs used.
