Last week, Commissioner Denise M. Miranda, Esq. attended this year's SOMOS Conference and participated in a panel on “The Role of Government as an LGBTQIA Ally in New York State, the United States, and its Territories” cosponsored by Assemblymembers Inez E. Dickens & Tony Simone, that was moderated by Civil Service Commissioner Timothy Hogues and also featured Wilfred Labiosa, Julietta Lopez, Margarita Larios, Priya Nair, and Joseph Thomas. Commissioner Miranda also joined with other partners in government including Congressmember Nydia Velazquez, Assemblymember Yudelka Tapia, OGS Commissioner Jeanette Moy, NYSERDA President & CEO Doreen Harris, Secretary of State Hon. Walter Mosley, among others in discussing how to advance New York State's legacy of civil rights leadership.

Today, DHR Commissioner Denise M. Miranda, Esq. joined Governor Kathy Hochul in East Flatbush, Brooklyn along with NYC Councilmember Farah Louis, Assemblymember Rodneyse Bichotte, and other partners in government to visit & show support for businesses in "Little Haiti", one of the largest Haitian communities in the United States. Commissioner Miranda also joined Governor Hochul, Secretary of State Hon. Walter Mosley, SLA Chair Lily Fan, for a roundtable discussion with faith leaders & elected officials at Brooklyn Borough Hall on working together to strengthen communities. DHR leadership also visited our Brooklyn Regional Office & Office of Sexual Harassment Issues today to discuss how we can further advance our mission of eliminating discrimination, remedying injustice, and promoting equal opportunity, access, and dignity.

Today, Commissioner Denise M. Miranda, Esq. and DHR Hate & Bias Prevention Unit Senior Director Ron Zacchi, MPA represented the Division at the Eradicate Hate Global Summit in Pittsburgh, PA. This summit provided a great opportunity to learn from thought leaders across industries and government on best practices in combating hate. We are proud to be a part of this global effort to drive effective change and strive for a safer and more inclusive community for all!
