The New York State CDFI Coalition was created in 2015 to position CDFIs as the most effective strategy and policy tool to address issues of financial inclusion, housing access and economic opportunity in New York State and to provide an effective and efficient delivery system for community development finance throughout the state. We are making innovative financing possible to strengthen all New York State regions, resulting in financially vibrant and healthy communities throughout the state. The Coalition is the largest and most active coalition of CDFIs in the nation, a recognized partner of state agencies with longstanding support from the state legislature and successive governors.

I'm sure many of you are on NFF's distribution list. In case you're not, I'm sharing some wise and timely words from Aisha Benson, who also serves as Chair of the NYS CDFI Coalition. I really needed to hear this today. Please know that the Coalition will be here to support your vital efforts. Thank you for all you do.
Dear Colleagues and Friends, This moment is heavy and uncertain. The near-term future feels unknown and unsafe for many people. The impacts will reverberate across our sector, affecting nonprofits and communities who are already striving under immense pressure. I’m going to be straight with you all: this week I’m allowing myself to feel whatever I feel – the frustration, the disappointment, and deep concern. Let’s pause to honor these feelings. It’s okay to feel shaken, disoriented, even dismay. As leaders and partners in this work, we must allow ourselves the grace of vulnerability before we rise with renewed purpose. This week, I am sitting with the discomfort, and I invite you to do the same. Yet, as I reflect on where we've been, I know our collective strength and determination will shine through. Our resilience is not hypothetical. It’s real, tested, and enduring. The CDFI and nonprofit sectors have weathered immense challenges before. During the Great Recession of 2008-09, we persisted, supporting communities in need. After the 2016 election, we stepped up to stand with our partners and clients. And through the long, grueling years of the COVID-19 pandemic, we rose to meet unforeseen needs, often transforming how we serve. For example, nonprofits that had previously focused on supplying literacy materials for families now also began to distribute basic supplies, like food and diapers. And the CDFI sector stepped up as a lender to support underserved businesses and nonprofits, distributing $34 billion in critical PPP loans to reimagine services to keep families afloat; we never faltered. We have always adapted, always fought for equity, and always stayed the course. This moment, too, will be one that calls us to act with fortitude and unwavering commitment. Our north star remains resolute: to support, to uplift, and to fight for justice and the well-being of our communities. Together, we will endure. We will keep advocating, innovating, and working toward a more inclusive and equitable future. Our sector’s legacy is one of action and resilience, and that legacy continues. To our nonprofit partners: resources remain available, both from NFF (https://lnkd.in/eRur_tba) and beyond. We are here, as always, to walk alongside you, to strategize, to listen, and to support. Please reach out to us at [email protected] if you need to.? With solidarity, and in community,? Aisha?
Community Wealth Through Community Investment. Personal Financial Mastery. Building and Managing Credit for Small Business. Green Lending. Affordable and Supportive Housing. These are just some of the transformative efforts being led by Community Development Financial Institutions. Today we celebrate the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Riegle Community Development and Regulatory Improvement Act of 1994 – which stood up the US Treasury’s CDFI Fund. The CDFI Fund plays a vital role in supporting our work to generate economic growth and opportunity in some of our most distressed communities.
