关于我们

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is North America's largest transportation network, serving a population of 15.3 million people in the 5,000-square-mile area fanning out from New York City through Long Island, southeastern New York State, and Connecticut. The MTA comprises six agencies: MTA New York City Transit, MTA Bus Company, MTA Long Island Rail Road, MTA Metro-North Railroad, MTA Bridges and Tunnels, and MTA Construction & Development. The MTA network has the nation’s largest bus fleet and more subway and commuter rail cars than all other U.S. transit systems combined. It provides around 2.6 billion trips each year, accounting for about one-third of the nation’s mass transit users and two-thirds of its commuter rail passengers. MTA Bridges and Tunnels, which recorded a record 329 million crossings in 2019, carries more vehicles than any other bridge and tunnel authority in the nation. Earlier this fall, we announced our first Open Data Challenge—an open call for data explorers to use the MTA’s open data on data.ny.gov to build something cool. After reviewing over 100 submissions, we’re excited to share that this year’s winner is Stephanie Dang’s project Art Off The Rails! Stephanie Dang's interactive map makes the locations of the MTA’s permanent art collection easily accessible. Users can explore the artwork at each subway station by clicking the corresponding circle on the map. The project uses the Svelte JavaScript framework and is open-source: https://lnkd.in/gtZpjxgc We are so grateful to every single individual who took the time to submit a project!?Learn more about the challenge and see some of our favorite finalists here: https://lnkd.in/gzf9e_zv

This week, we're celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge, which has served as a vital link connecting Staten Island and Brooklyn since Nov. 21, 1964. When it opened, it was the world’s largest suspension span and today, remains the longest suspension bridge in North America at a total 9,865 feet between abutments. Designed by renowned civil engineer Othman Amman, the bridge carries more than 1,600 MTA buses every weekday and carried over 80 million vehicles in 2023. Here are some historic photos of the iconic bridge! -- Photo Information: Photo 1: Opening day motorcade crosses the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge on November 21, 1964 Photo 2: The first car to cross over the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge.
