We are pleased to announce that our Board of Directors has selected Julie Coker to serve as the next President and CEO of NYC Tourism + Conventions, effective December 9, 2024. Julie will join us from the San Diego Tourism Authority, where she has made a significant impact as President and CEO, leading tourism recovery efforts on behalf of the destination and surpassing 2019 tourism levels. She has served in executive roles across the tourism and hospitality sectors for more than three decades. Before her time at SDTA, Julie was President and CEO of the Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau, where she successfully oversaw the planning and execution of major events including the 2017 NFL Draft and the 2016 Democratic National Convention. She began her career with Hyatt just over two decades there, rising through the ranks in a variety of positions and ultimately serving as the general manager for the Hyatt Regency Philadelphia at Penn’s Landing, where she led all operational aspects of the 350-room hotel. Moreover, she is a respected industry leader bringing unique insight and notable influence from across the tourism and hospitality industries. Since January 2023, she has served on the U.S. Department of Commerce’s U.S. Travel and Tourism Advisory Board, joining 31 other leaders from the domestic travel and tourism industry in providing advice to the Secretary of Commerce on travel priorities. She also serves on the executive boards of the U.S. Travel Association and Visit California, as well as the boards of Meeting Professionals International, the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce, the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation, the San Diego Lodging Association, and Sharp Health Care. She is a member of the San Diego Chapter of The Links, Incorporated. In 2023, she received the Fearless Award from the San Diego Black Chamber of Commerce and was inducted into the All-Time Hall of Fame by Smart Women in Meetings. In 2021, she was named a Phenomenal Woman in Business in the San Diego Union-Tribune’s Phenomenal Women series. In both 2012 and 2019, the Philadelphia Business Journal named her among their Women of Distinction honorees. She was the 2017 United Negro College Fund Mayor’s Ball Honoree for Civic Leadership and was named one of the Network Journal’s 25 Most Influential Black Women in Business. We are delighted to welcome Julie to the team and look forward to her leadership on behalf of New York City’s tourism industry. To learn more, visit nyctourism.com/newsroom

Some news: Our NYC Local Legends series won two Emmy Awards this past weekend. Congrats to all who worked on it, those who were featured, and the communities they represent in the videos. You can watch the 5-part series on our YouTube: https://lnkd.in/efBHzBUt
Our NYC Local Legends docuseries won 2 Emmy Awards! The series takes viewers to parts of the 5 boroughs that often don't get enough shine but contribute so much to the NYC culture that is loved and revered around the world -- places like the South Bronx, Flatbush, Washington Heights, Jackson Heights, Stapleton. The series is hosted by local community leaders who lend us their lens on the culture and community, and the pulse of what these neighborhoods truly mean. Thank you to Angela Hunte, DJ Spynfo, Hector Espinal Jr., Naq Zamal & Jaclyn Tacorante for your perspective and energy. I pitched this video series almost three years ago. There were obstacles along the way, like casting (woooh), a director dropping out mid-project (yooo!) and more, but I am extremely grateful for where it's gone and the impact it's had on the communities they represent. I am also grateful for everyone who has walked past our out-of-home ad campaign (hey Ririiii lol) But truly, big thank you to the Creative and Content team, Digital team and Marketing team at NYC Tourism for all your contributions to this project. Thank you Nancy Mammana Jonathan Durbin and many others for the support and leadership. Thank you to our collaborators Graham Raubvogel and Sandra Tan at PROM, Jared Rosenthal, Kitty Hu and the entire team we worked with to bring this to life. Very proud moment as a creative and as a New Yorker.

We recently hosted a FAM tour featuring seven travel agencies from Zhejiang and Jiangsu provinces in China, made possible with support from Asiana Airlines. Our itinerary took these representatives through multiple neighborhoods, showcasing the incredible experiences available to their clients. We look forward to seeing how these agencies will bring their new knowledge of NYC back overseas, and continue to boost inbound tourism from China. #2024NYCChinaFAM #WhatsGoodNYC A warm thank you to our participating members: City Experiences Emursive Productions - Life & Trust (immersive performance) Hudson Yards New York Like A Local Tours - Brooklyn Walking Tour Mercer Labs Museum of Art and Technology New York Hilton Midtown The Metropolitan Museum of Art The Museum of Modern Art Top of the Rock Observation Deck SUMMIT One Vanderbilt Photo Credit: Eason Gu

It's the best time to organize meetings and incentives in New York City, and we're proud to have partnered with Millennium Hotels and Resorts on a post-IMEX FAM trip to bring planners from Asia Pacific to New York City to showcase why. Here's a photo recap of our itinerary, including stops at Delmonico's Restaurant, Brooklyn Delicatessen Times Square, the Empire State Building, Mercer Labs Museum of Art and Technology, the Millennium Downtown New York, the M Social Hotel New York Times Square, and an NYC Bagel Tour via BagelUp.

Congrats to all the honorees here, including NYC Tourism members Melba's Restaurant, Bronx Beer Hall, Neir's Tavern, Park Central Hotel NY, Someday Bar, Great Performances, and Rab's Country Lanes. We also spy Shaw-Nae's House and Bungalow, whose welcoming restaurants we've profiled on our website. And as always, thanks to NYC Hospitality Alliance for recognizing this great work throughout the five boroughs and for its constant advocacy for the City's hospitality industry.
Cheers to the 2024 NYC Hospitality Alliance Award Honorees! We are grateful to the people from all walks of life who have dedicated themselves to our city’s world-renowned hospitality community. Your contributions to the economic and social fabric of our city makes our advocacy critical and rewarding. “New York City is much safer than most other big US cities. By the simple metric of homicides plus land-transport deaths, it’s among the safest places in the country.”
