Today marks the 23nd anniversary of September 11, one of the most challenging crises in New York City's history. On this anniversary, we honor the lives of the victims, their families, and survivors of the attacks. We will #NeverForget911. ? ? Please note: From 8:40am to 1:30pm today, there will be a private ceremony on the September 11 Memorial plaza commemorating those killed in the September 11, 2001, attacks and in the February 26, 1993, bombing of the World Trade Center. The program will stream live at https://lnkd.in/grMyTHRQ? ? Today, at sundown, the Tribute in Light will be lit in Lower Manhattan.? ? Pictured:? ? 1. If you're in New York City this September 11 and cast a glance toward Lower Manhattan, you won't be able to miss the always breathtaking Tribute in Light that makes an annual appearance from dusk to dawn. It's an ephemeral and poignant commemorative public art installation first presented six months after September 11 and then every year thereafter.? ? They often do a series of tests with white lights in the run up to the anniversary, so it's likely you've been seeing those the last couple of says, either in person or on social. The blue beams only shine on 9/11.? ? Speaking of which, you'll also note a number of buildings across the City illuminating in blue to complement the twin beams and pay tribute as well. Find a full list at https://lnkd.in/eFnjquXX? More Tribute in Light facts, per the National September 11 Memorial & Museum website: ?? The lights are assembled on the roof of the Battery Parking Garage south of the 9/11 Memorial? ? ?? The beams reach up to four miles into the sky and comprise eighty-eight 7,000-watt xenon lightbulbs positioned into two 48-foot squares, echoing the shape and orientation of the Twin Towers? ?? The installation can be seen up to 60 miles away? ? The 2024 South America Reverse Sales Mission & Business Expo welcomed 29 tour operators from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Peru. The week-long program included FAM tours of #Queens, #Brooklyn and #TheBronx to highlight our culinary, arts, culture, sports, and entertainment offerings. The buyers also met with 40 NYC Tourism members and partners. Thank you to all who participated!
Last week we had the privilege of hosting 29 tour operators from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Peru during our #SouthAmericaBusinessExpo2024. Thank you to our partners Delta Air Lines for transporting our guests safe and sound upon the heels of Hurricane Ernesto. I'm also continuously amazed by the level of support by our member base which allows us to produce such high level programs. Thank you Hotel Beacon NYC, NH Collection New York Madison Avenue, Westin Hotels & Resorts Times Square, The New Yorker, A Wyndham Hotel and Warwick New York for thoughtful service and gifts during our guests' stay. Lastly thank you Top of the Rock Observation Deck, Broadway Inbound Inc, Disney Theatrical Group, Barclays Center, and Circle Line Sightseeing Cruises for unforgettable events and entertainment. The feedback we've received for participants on both sides of the aisle has been remarkable. But to create and carry out this platform where numerous dreams were realized, including that of my own, shows the love and passion we all have for New York City. Once again thank you to our Events team, Legal, Creative and all hands that lend a hand for this was a complete team win. #WhatsGoodNYC

Last week, nearly 40 members and staff came together for our annual NYC Tourism Cares event, transforming Hallets Cove Playground in Astoria. We painted 22 benches, refreshed 120 feet of iron fencing, weeded the playground, and cleaned up litter. The tools and paint we used have been donated to Partnerships for Parks for ongoing maintenance. Afterward, we enjoyed a meal at Fresco’s Cantina (a #RestaurantWeek favorite!). A big shoutout to NYC Ferry for sponsoring the event and providing smooth, scenic transportation. Thank you to everyone who participated and made a positive impact on our community. #NYCTourismCares #WhatsGoodNYC #CommunityService #ParkImprovement

This month, New York City Tourism + Conventions had the honor of welcoming the Student & Youth Travel Association (SYTA) back to NYC for the first time in over a decade. SYTA: Student & Youth Travel Association brought together more than 1,100 delegates — including buyers, suppliers, partners, and youth affiliates — who engaged in a series of business appointments, educational panels, and cultural experiences across the City's iconic museums, attractions, and neighborhoods. Student group travel remains a crucial segment of New York City’s tourism economy. As one of the top three U.S. destinations for student travel, NYC proudly welcomes nearly one million visitors each year.
