When Misty Copeland became the first Black woman principal dancer at the American Ballet Theatre, she didn’t just shatter barriers—she forever transformed the narrative of what is possible for young women of color in dance and beyond. With every graceful leap and poised pirouette, Misty has danced boldly through stereotypes, teaching the world that beauty, strength, and resilience know no limits. As we close our Women’s History Month series, we celebrate Misty Copeland’s legacy, reminding every young girl in NYC: YOU belong wherever your dreams lead you. ? Who inspires you to dance confidently toward your dreams? Tag them below! #MovingForwardTogether #NYCHerFuture #WomensHistoryMonth2025 #BlackGirlMagic

Long before #MeToo echoed globally, Tarana Burke created safe spaces for young Black and Brown women to say these two powerful words: “Me Too.” Through her courage, compassion, and relentless advocacy, she gave voice to survivors whose stories had long been silenced. Tarana taught the world that empowerment begins with listening, believing, and standing alongside one another—especially when it feels hardest. Her vision reminds every young woman of color that her story matters, her healing matters, and her voice can ignite a movement. NYC Her Future proudly amplifies the legacies of women like Tarana Burke and we’re committed to creating environments where young women feel seen, supported, and believed—so they, too, can rise up and shape a more just world. ?? Who has helped you find the strength in your voice? Tag them below! #MovingForwardTogether #NYCHerFuture #WomensHistoryMonth2025

To kickoff Women’s Herstory Month, Founding Executive Director, Nathifa Forde took the stage as the opening speaker and MC at NYC Department of Education Women’s History Month event, sharing her own full-circle story—from once being a student under the mentorship of Dr. Jawana Johnson, Ed.D, to now leading NYC Her Future’s mission to uplift and empower young women and girls of color throughout New York City. After energetic performances from the incredible all-female drummers of BATALA, Nathifa engaged in inspiring youth-led interviews with talented students from Art and Design School, reflecting openly on cultural connections and historical impact. At NYC Her Future, we believe that celebrating Women’s History Month is more than reflecting on past achievements— it’s about investing in young women and celebrating the educators who guide their journeys. Thank you to Chancellor Melissa Aviles-Ramos and the NYC Department of Education’s team for the invitation. To the students and educators who attended: Thank you for your courage, curiosity, and vision. Your journey is just beginning, and we’re here cheering you on every step of the way! ? #NYCHerFuture #WomensHistoryMonth2025 #MovingForwardTogether
