Neighbors, Friends & Advocates, Eight years ago, I became Chairwoman of the NYC Fair Trade Coalition. Fresh off the 2016 election, I attended the Women's March in NYC with a literal sign on my back reading, "I'm a Community Organizer. Let's get to Werk!" Armed with a pocket of business cards, I was ready to pour my energy into building a coalition and supporting others who shared a vision for a more sustainable future. Now, after eight years of work, it’s hard not to feel a touch of apathy about the challenges that lie ahead. Escapism is tempting, but the soul isn't nourished through solitude or loneliness; it craves connection and community. It's in times like these that we need spaces like The Sustainable Fashion Community Center to come together, console one another, and create plans for a positive future. We need your help to ensure The Sustainable Fashion Community Center continues into the next chapter. If everyone receiving this email donated $1, we could bring back our monthly Sustainable Fashion Community Meetings. With a $2.50 donation from each of you, we could enhance our impact reporting to better showcase the positive results of your recycling efforts. A $5 donation from everyone would allow our Community Managers, Beryl and Josthyn, and our Fellows to keep working on grants and hosting events. And if everyone gave $10, we’d have the resources to secure a permanent home for our community. Once upon a time (check out the video at the end), we created a video sharing our call to action to help us find a space—and the universe answered. It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will be closing the Sustainable Fashion Community Center. We're setting our sights on a bigger, more accessible place all of our own. We're starting to pack up with our final day 11/20. We'll have events over the next three weeks helping us find new homes for our plants, books, and furniture, culminating in our annual Pie fest Friends-giving celebration. MYCO’s heartbeat is steady and picking up! We are less than 14 days out from three days of environmental justice being a reflection of all social justice movements. I am super excited to be sharing our full schedule! Build your MYCO weekend ????! When I think about the environmental movement I hope for more people who look like me and resonate with my own journey in sustainability to be heard, seen, and felt! I wish that this movement continues to uplift and center the communities most impacted by climate change, environmental injustice, and who transcend greenwashing and consumerism by living along the lines of generational knowledge and survival. A wish I’ve held so long I’m building it myself here and now. We have designed programming for everyone on their journey for the climate space’s most important vantage points—activism + policy, art + culture, business, and tech.
