关于我们

Established in 1978, the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) is the largest municipal housing preservation and development agency in the nation. The agency’s mission is to promote the quality and affordability of the city’s housing and the strength and diversity of its many neighborhoods. We do that by preserving affordable housing and protecting tenants, developing new affordable housing, enforcing the Housing Maintenance Code, and engaging neighborhoods in planning. • The holiday season is a time for reflection and gratitude, and at HPD, it’s also a moment to recognize the resilience of the New Yorkers we serve. Every day, our work ensures that families have not just a place to live, but a foundation for stability, care, and community. On the 10th year of our toy drive for families in HPD shelters, we received more gifts THAN ever with over 400 gifts for children and teens! Every family deserves to feel the magic of the holidays. Thank you to the HPDers, especially our Emergency Housing Services team, who helped give back this holiday season. Thank you for all you do, not just during the holidays, but every day of the year. 🎁

  • We are proud to work hand in hand with Office of the New York State Attorney General secure a major victory for tenants living in Lilmor buildings. One of the ctiy’s worst landlords has agreed to a $6.5 million settlement after repeatedly violating health and safety laws, including exposing tenants to hazardous conditions, lead paint, and infestations: https://bit.ly/3OYTQPq   At HPD, we’re committed to holding bad actors accountable for their actions and ensuring that all New Yorkers live in safe, stable, habitable homes. This settlement will provide restitution for impacted tenants and ensure that Lilmor brings its properties up to code.   No one deserves to live in a home that threatens their health and well-being, we will continue to work closely with with the New York State Attorney General to ensure repairs are made and tenants are compensated. A special shoutout to Deputy Commissioner of Enforcement and Neighborhood Services AnnMarie Santiago, and Assistant Commissioner of Housing Litigation Marti Weithman for their invaluable assistance in this work.

  • NYC Mayor Eric Adams and New York Governor Kathy Hochul recently celebrated new numbers for the 421-a extension tax incentive program to help build tens of thousands of critically needed affordable housing units in NYC. HPD received Letters of Intent for approximately 650 buildings, representing about 71,000 new homes, including 21,000 affordable units. This extension will support the City’s ability to provide housing as the city faces a 1.4 percent rental vacancy rate, with half of all New York renters paying more than 30 percent of their income in rent.
