DDC Commissioner Foley joined Mayor Adams today for an announcement on two Project Labor Agreements (PLAs) with the Building & Construction Trades Council of Greater New York (BCTC) that will cover more than $1 billion in construction projects throughout the term of the agreements. These historic PLAs will allow the city to complete capital projects more effectively and efficiently, connect more underserved New Yorkers to quality union career and apprenticeship opportunities through?community hiring, and strengthen the city's commitment to minority- and women-owned businesses (M/WBEs). Today's announcement will allow the city to utilize more efficient project delivery models across the city, shaving months and years off capital project timelines and saving taxpayers millions of dollars. Thanks to this agreement, the city intends to use design-build delivery for two DDC projects: a $150 million greenway along the?East Side Coastal Resiliency project?in Lower Manhattan and for a $40 million deep sewer manhole project in Brooklyn. "DDC's design-build pilot program is reducing the timelines for major public projects by years, and Project Labor Agreements are critical to maintaining that success and building on it in the future," said?Commissioner Foley. "Effective PLAs minimize project disruptions and they help us access a skilled and diverse workforce so we can complete culturally competent projects all over the city. We look forward to continuing the great design-build work on both our public buildings and infrastructure projects." • DDC joined the New York City Police Department, elected officials, and members of the community to celebrate the opening of the new 40th Precinct Station House at 567 East 149th Street, at the corner of St. Ann's Avenue in the South Bronx. The new 45,260-square-foot station house features a Community Room for neighborhood meetings and events, decorated with public art from artist Jeffrey Gibson, whose work won a design award from the Public Design Commission. Additional work by artist Borinquen Gallo will be installed on the new perimeter fence surrounding the site. The station house has areas for officer training and for physical fitness, plus ample space for storage and maintenance of gear and vehicles. The building includes fuel tanks and backup generators that will enable it to continue to serve the community for several days in case of a blackout or other power loss. It is also designed to meet the standards for LEED Gold certification for environmental sustainability. There is a new 70,000-square-foot parking lot on site as well. To beautify the area, the parking lot and surrounding areas were completed with 1,100 new plantings of trees and various shrubs. The station house was designed by the BIG - Bjarke Ingels Group under DDC’s?Design and Construction Excellence?program. The program, which began in 2004, minimizes the timeline for the design procurement process while ensuring the highest levels of quality and professionalism in design and construction projects managed by the agency. We thank The LiRo Group for their efforts on this project as well. Finally, a special shout out to the DDC Music Club for joining us to celebrate the opening of the station house!

DDC Commissioner Foley joined Anchin this morning for the 19th Annual?State of the Construction Industry?event. Commissioner Foley highlighted how DDC is leading as well as adapting to the various challenges faced in the industry as well as by the City. DDC continues to work with our partners on critical resiliency projects large and small — the threats are real and lives are at stake. We also need to be able to pivot quickly to adapt to new technology, energy codes, design specs, building codes, and more — and having better flexibility is essential in getting work done. We continue to work hard to deliver projects on schedule and on budget. Having the right tools, such as Design-Build and CM-Build, will help deliver projects faster to the communities that need them.

We are thrilled to announce that Jade Bailey, civil engineer and Director in the agency's design-build pilot program, received the prestigious Sloan Public Service Award. The last time DDC received a Sloan Award was?2002, when it was given an Agency Award for its efforts to remediate the World Trade Center site following the 9/11 attacks. "Jade Bailey has gone above and beyond for the city in times of crisis, she is part of a groundbreaking effort that is improving municipal construction, and we are extraordinarily fortunate to have her at DDC and we rejoice in her success,” said?Commissioner Foley. “Jade exemplifies everything a City and DDC employee should be. She excels at motivating project teams, supervising contractors and managing projects with tight schedules, and right now the cutting-edge design-build program she is part of developing is reducing the timelines for large public projects by years. She is very deserving of a Sloan Award, considered the ‘Nobel Prize’ of awards for city employees.” The?awards, which since 1973 have been sponsored by the?Fund for the City of New York, are considered the leading award for city employees and are given for an “extraordinary level of commitment to the public” and to employees who “routinely step beyond the bounds of their job responsibilities to ensure that New Yorkers’ needs are met.” We congratulate Jade for this well-deserved recognition! ?????? In this fun twist on collaboration, the classic TV show The Dating Game takes center stage –– with a design-build spin. A “bachelorette” design-builder was matched with three “contestant” Owners, each eager to share their perspective on working relationships.
