In this fun twist on collaboration, the classic TV show The Dating Game takes center stage –– with a design-build spin. A “bachelorette” design-builder was matched with three “contestant” Owners, each eager to share their perspective on working relationships. Moderated by industry veterans, this #DBIACon interactive General Session highlighted how to create successful partnerships and spark new ideas for fostering collaboration and innovation across project teams.
DDC is honored to be recognized by the Society of American Military Engineers NYC Post as the 2024 Public Entity of the Year at the Annual Fletcher H. "Bud" Griffis Scholarship Fund Dinner, held on November 2nd at Cipriani. It is a great privilege to support our profession and the mission objectives of S.A.M.E., to honor our military and to provide scholarship assistance to the next generation of engineering professionals.
DDC completed a project in Bayside, Queens which reconstructed the medians and made safety and other street improvements along Union Turnpike from 226th Street to Hollis Court Boulevard. The project, which was managed by DDC for DOT, was completed almost $400,000 under its original budget of $5.429 million as well as on schedule despite additional work that was added to the project at the request of Con Edison. DDC Assistant Commissioner Yvi McEvilly spoke at the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) Conference and Expo today, joined by panelists?Fernanda Soares de Freitas and?Joanne Helen Iddon of Arup. The presentation highlighted how DDC is building the City one brick at a time through our Capital Program and our utilization of design-build, which is transforming how we're delivering for NYC.
DDC congratulates Jerry Aliberti and Ketty Paulino, who were recognized by the national Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) with its?Industry Honors Individual Awards. DDC Program Director Jerry Aliberti received the CMAA Award for Environmental Stewardship. To help improve the long-term environmental sustainability of various city facilities, Mr. Aliberti manages a program to convert numerous sites operated by FDNY, NYPD, NYC Parks and the NYC Department of Sanitation from oil to natural gas, while replacing boilers and installing new solar powered hot water heaters. DDC Deputy Director for Infrastructure Construction Ketty Paulino received the CMAA’s Distinguished Young Professional Award. Ms. Paulino has supervised several DDC infrastructure projects simultaneously and is now part of the agency’s?coastal resiliency?construction team. "We build cool stuff all over New York and building our staff is an important part of our long-term success. The Brooklyn Bridge-Montgomery Coastal Resilience project was recognized in Bentley Systems’ Year in Infrastructure 2024 Going Digital Awards, winning the Founder's Honors Award in the Construction Category. DDC is using the latest technologies and tools to create 3D modeling of subsurface and above ground structures.?Additionally, we have linked schedule (4D) and cost (5D) to the model to effectively monitor progress, eliminate interferences, minimize unforeseen conditions and analyze schedule changes in real time.?When unforeseen conditions and/or delays have arisen, this tool has been effectively used to analyze different alternatives to mitigate such delays. The primary goal of the 4D/5D model/animation is to help a group of stakeholders visualize the scope of work and to aide with construction sequencing, clash detection, traffic management and the phasing of the construction project based on the Contractor’s means and methods and to visualize the Planned, Earned and Actual monetary value of the work done throughout the project life cycle. We congratulate our partners GPI / Greenman-Pedersen, Inc. for their efforts on this critical project.
The Public Design Commission (PDC) honored five DDC projects as part of their 42nd Annual Awards for Excellence in Public Design. Those projects include the Borough Park Library in Brooklyn, the Walter Gladwin Recreation Center and the Orchard Beach Maintenance and Operations Facility in the Bronx. ? Also included in this year's awards are two Percent for Art installations. One installation, titled A Bit of Everything, will be located in the Douglaston-Little Neck Library in Queens. The other, titled What do I See to be Except Myself, will be located in the Eastern Parkway Library in Brooklyn. ? “DDC partners with some of the world’s top design firms to deliver extraordinary public projects as part of our 20-year commitment to design and construction excellence, and we enliven those projects with great public artwork through DCLA’s ‘Percent for Art’ program. Now, through our design-build program, we’re proving that excellent public design can be delivered better, faster, and more inclusively on behalf of the diverse communities we serve. We’re honored to receive this recognition from the Public Design Commission, and we thank them for their partnership in improving how the city delivers capital projects on behalf of all New Yorkers," said Commissioner Foley.
