New Report Alert! ?? The latest report from NYLPI's Environmental Justice team, in partnership with?NY Renews “Flouting the Law: Major State Agencies Are Ignoring New York’s Climate Mandates,” exposes critical failures in how New York state agencies are implementing the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (Climate Act). This key legislation aims to cut greenhouse gas emissions and ensure that clean energy investments benefit all communities, especially those most overburdened by environmental harm. Our report reveals that major projects, including highway expansions and clean energy initiatives, are advancing without climate and equity screenings required by this law. These omissions compromise our climate goals and fail to protect New York’s vulnerable communities. Swipe to learn more about our findings. We need Governor Hochul?to act now to enforce the Climate Act. Email the Governor and state agency heads today to demand immediate action. Take action here: https://lnkd.in/eucDaeuM Read the full report: https://lnkd.in/dUubs5Ab #floutingthelaw?#climateact?#climateaction?#environmentaljustice #climatejobsjustice

Politics New York just dropped their annual "Power Players" and we're pleased to see NY Renews Executive Director Stephan Edel featured! Since NY Renews' campaign to pass New York’s landmark Climate Act in 2019, Executive Director Stephan Edel has been at the helm, leading our coalition of nearly 400 organizations through strategic decisions and changing political terrain. When asked "What is one thing everyone can do to help protect the environment?" Stephan said, "Organize. That’s the simplest answer. While we need to collectively and individually question our practices and reduce our emissions and energy use, in the end, we will only make the progress we need through collective action. Figure out how to work in your community and with your existing networks to make New York a leader on climate, not just reduce your carbon footprint—an idea popularized by the fossil fuel industry in the first place." Stephan brings decades of organizing and policymaking experience to NY Renews, including over a decade of policy and legislative work at the Working Families Party. We're lucky to have him. https://lnkd.in/eGJxH_q5
