Join us @5pm PST today!
1 year ago The Cannabis Collective and PAX Collin Lam threw one of the best mixers in a 3 story suite in the Cosmopolitan #MJBIZ Almost 200 people showed up for 430-8pm event in a suite that genuinly could only hold 30 people. Floor to ceiling was packed with executive leaders from across North America. 1. Time flies and seems to be going faster- can't believe that was a year ago... 2. There is no subsitute for community. No matter what industry you are in, people buy and sell from people they like, respect and trust. 3. Everyone always remembers the room where they met their next partner, opportunity or hire. Seek to be the connector without an ask in return and you shall be rewarded 4. Game changing deals take time. Lead with curiosity and an understanding of what problems you might be able to solve before your pitch Looking forward to another Vegas trip, I keep saying it's going to be my last but the people and energy just keep pulling me back. Keep 5pm today free for an informal The Cannabis Collective mixer. It won't be an overflowing 3 story suite party but it will have top tier community, people and perspectives. #deals #talent #community

202 legal stores open in NYC now. This is monumental. Do you know how challenging it is to usher in a new industry? Especially one that has been wrongly stigmatized and has failed a lot of communities with wrongful incarceration? How about the impacts from all of those pieces? The mind is not as malleable to change as we believe...bias, experience, society..these are pieces that do not allow us to reconsider a different alternative. What does it take to open a legal store, especially when there is an illicit one across the street from you that doesn't have the same constraints and typically goes unenforced (NYC has done a good job of this lately) What does it take to have city & state regulators, investors, bankers, tech orgs, brands, lawyers, accountants work together to create something that gives equal opportunity to all? SO MANY things have to go right to build a legal industry. Yes there are many problems such as access to fair banking, big tech like Meta and Google and TikTok not understanding this is a legal industry. But in 40 years, when every single person will have some sort of relationship with cannabis, be it through pain relief topicals, recovery oils, flower to spark creativity or edibles to help you sleep.... You will know that you were there and you made a difference. During the peak challenges. Whether you stay in the industry or not (something I think about often) The skills you have built are extremely transferrable. The resilience you have shown is transferrable. We live in a world where executives in tech change jobs every 18 months...for the shiny new thing. But you've stayed put to build something great. Challenge after challenge...it becomes a game where the journey truly never ends. Join us tomorrow morning for The Cannabis Collective Coffee with the Collective where I have somehow convinced our team to interview me. It will be a fun episode focusing on a) how as an industry we can take lessons in customer loyalty from companies like Nike SEPHORA Starbucks and b) dive into lessons learned from the Canadian Market. Sign up link is in the comments. #nyc #cannabisindustry #retail #growth #resilience

Check out a quick recap below of the Summer Retreat from one of our Founders Shahbaaz Kara-Virani It was a magical day infused with connection, content, and collaboration where we also welcomed 3 new executive members to our community. As always, if you believe you are a good fit for Executive Membership, drop a line in our inbox, let's have a chat. Keep an eye out for key partnerships, events, and our quarterly dinners. Catch up next Thursday @9am EST as we resume Coffee with the Collective. If you aren't already on the invite, let us know and we will drop you the link.
With 160+ open retailers in the NY State, countless innovative brands, and top-tier leaders, the NY market is accelerating quickly. Acceleration & activity often mean opportunity cost, burnout, and a consistent exercise determining who you can trust. This is hard. All three of these creep up on you and before you know it you can′t keep your head on straight. The pace is so quick. Recognizing the importance of fostering connectivity, real relationships and building continuous knowledge capital, The Cannabis Collective set out to host our second annual retreat on August 9th in Saugerties NY. The two-day event featured: - A Thursday night executive dinner which was purposely unstructured to get ideas flowing (vs our others which have a strict Chatham House rules approach) - 65 executive leaders spanning retail, processor, brand, technology, law & regulatory consultants during the day on Friday at a beautiful farm - 2 Excellent panels which featured top leaders from Fernway Christopher (Kit) Gallant Casey Ly @Bloom Rebecca Seigel Verdi Kaelan Castetter HPI Canna Rick Bashkoff Lit Alerts Vince C. Ning @nabis - Brand activations including our new friends at Coastal Vape Co and the Northeast′s ′Forever Brand′Fernway & delicious drinks from ayrloom. - World-class food from two resilient chefs who battled the rain on and off all day - A calming and somewhat challenging Vinyasa flow to start the day & set the intentions (with an amazing Bloom pen in hand) by @woodstock infusions - 4 breakout workshops including Terp Tasting with the Terp god Andrew Lowitz, A nature hike with your best friend's favourite, DJ SloaneMotion Sloane B., a conversation on Hemp vs. Cannabis with the immaculate Jeffrey Schultz, and finally, Actionable Trust Building (ATB) with yours truly, SKV. - Product ¨pitches¨from all of our partners including Carol Tyson, MBA & Naturae Connections were created, relationships were forged, and trust was cemented. We battled the wind, the rain, and the unknown elements. We discussed a lot, including what you need to focus on over these next four months as a NY operator, how to be successful in your lane, and how to stay grounded. More importantly, the executives who attended had a chance to look under the hood of their fellow execs and discover their way in hopes of one day being a resource. Over the past few years of being on the front lines of building this community, I have personally learned a lot. Number one, though, is that you′ll go far if you genuinely care about the person first and foremost. If you are curious and lead with value and reciprocity, the business will come. I'm excited about the NY market for years to come....but don′t get it twisted. It will only get harder to win as the days go by. So find your tribe right now and qualify ruthlessly. Thank you to all of our executive members and partners. We could not have dreamed about doing something like this if it hadn't been for you. #leadership #trust

Our annual summer get together of the leaders of the NY and Northeast Cannabis markets is thr can’t miss event of the summer. As the market continues to scale - local community and connection with our peers across the supply chain and IRL relationships are the path to success and happiness. Join us next Friday (8/9) in one of the most gorgeous parts of NYS!
I love team offsites. Pre Covid, these days were designed specifically for Leadership Teams to come together for a day of out of office bonding, learning, and alignment. These days, in a remote world, they are far and few between. It feels like everything is faster. There is no separation between the office because...everything is the office. It also seems like offsites aren't as much of a priority because everyone is...already offsite. Couple that with the pace that Cannabis Leadership is required to move at because of all the nuances and day to day challenges....how in the heck do you build comradery, strong exec team structure & alignment? The Cannabis Collective recognizes this is a challenge and understands if something isn't done, groups and teams will go the whole year without this level of intimacy, learning and relationship building. The impacts on culture & morale take a toll on the bottom line. On August 9th & 10, we are aiming to solve this for the second year in a row via The Summer Retreat-your Executive offsite. A day of actionable learning, deep relationship building and intentional rest. A day to reset and get ready for all the success (and work) that's to come in the back half of the year. With incredible partners Fernway Naturae ayrloom NABIS leading the charge, this retreat will be like no other you have ever been to. If you are a retailer, we have a few complimentary retail tickets available through our partners. Feel free to connect directly with myself Abigail Perl, MNA Sloane B. Jeffrey Schultz Andrew Lowitz if you'd like to join us. We also have a bus from the NYC to Upstate NY as well as recommendations for housing If you'd like to stay on either the 8th evening (and enjoy a top notch dinner) or the 9th (a pool party awaits you on the 10th) we can point you to wonderfil accomodations Your tribe awaits. Don't miss this! #Collective #executive #offsite #breakouts #relationships #growth
