Prices have skyrocketed to a record $269.92 per megawatt-day, up from just $28.92 per megawatt-day last year. In addition, FirstEnergy in Ohio is planning to revert to an older Electric Security Plan (ESP IV), which may reintroduce additional surcharges for customers. Energy consultant Matt Brakey warns that businesses could face significantly higher electricity costs if this happens, with some even seeing their rates triple, depending on the final outcome of regulatory decisions. For many businesses, electricity is the third-largest expense after payroll and rent, and these potential rate hikes could put a serious strain on their bottom line. Home Charging Is a Game-Changer: Many people think charging an EV is inconvenient, but modern EVs can go days on a single charge, and charging at home is as simple as plugging in your phone. No more wasting time at gas stations. ?? More Charging Stations Are Being Added Every Day: For long trips, charging stations are becoming increasingly easy to find and are even integrated into your navigation system. While there’s still work to be done with infrastructure, the reality is that things are getting better, and range anxiety is rapidly becoming a thing of the past. ?? Smoother Driving Experience: EVs provide a smoother, more enjoyable driving experience. Regenerative braking and one-pedal driving make it feel effortless, with fewer worries about battery degradation or safety concerns. ??♀? Conversations with People Thinking About EVs: I speak with people all the time who ask me about my Tesla and share that they’ve been considering the move to an EV. Once they learn more about the benefits—like cost savings, convenience, and performance—the decision often becomes much clearer for them. In my view, based on real-world experience, the transition to electric vehicles (EVs) is already well underway. While the US still has less than 10% of new cars being electric, globally, EV sales have surged, growing from 10% to 15%, and are set to reach 50% and beyond. As more people experience how easy, convenient, and enjoyable driving an EV can be, the adoption curve will only continue to accelerate. I don't believe in #globalwarming or #climatechange - or at least, that was my view a decade ago. I was young and lacked the foresight that today's younger generation exhibits. I didn’t believe in climate change because I didn’t take the time to really think about it or do any research. I chose to ignore the issue, thinking that if it was real, I wouldn't be around long enough to worry about it. At the time, I also didn’t have children. However, this mindset was a significant lesson for me. That all changed as I became more informed, especially when I became a stepfather. This realization motivated me to start NXTGEN Clean Energy Solutions, where I focus on helping solve the problem of climate change through sustainable practices that make a real difference. The recent study published in The Lancet Planetary Health highlights a crucial reality: a significant majority of young Americans are deeply concerned about climate change, with 85% expressing at least moderate worry. More than half of these young people say this anxiety will influence where they choose to live and whether they want to have children.
