??Staff Spotlight: Guillermo Arzaga ?? At NWFM, we’re proud to highlight the people who help keep our orchards thriving—both in the field and behind the scenes. Meet Guillermo Arzaga, a dedicated Human Resources professional with over 12 years of experience in the Ag industry. Originally born in Mexico, Guillermo moved to Yakima with his family at age 10. He grew up working in the fields and graduated from Davis High School. His journey in agriculture began 15 years ago, processing payroll for a fruit company with multiple orchards. Over time, he was entrusted with greater responsibility and transitioned into a career in Human Resources. Guillermo brings extensive knowledge in HR policies, hiring, H-2A compliance, benefits management, and employee safety. His passion for working with people and deep understanding of the unique needs of agricultural teams make him a valued member of the NWFM family. Outside of work, Guillermo loves dancing and spending quality time with his family—especially shooting hoops and fishing with his sons.

Last week, our CEO, Keith Veselka, joined industry leaders, researchers, and innovators at Michigan State University for the NIFA SCRI Project Annual Meeting – AIMS for Apple Harvest and In-field Sorting. This collaborative event focused on the future of robotic apple harvesting, automated in-field sorting, and AI-driven efficiency in orchard operations. From in-depth discussions on project progress to a live robotic harvesting demo, the meeting highlighted groundbreaking advancements that will augument harvest processes and add the ability to sort fruit in the field. The advisory board provided insights and fostered partnerships that will help drive innovation and scalability in apple production. A big thank you to Dr. Renfu Lu and the entire research team for organizing this impactful meeting! That’s why we’re excited to celebrate Washington State University & Heritage University students for winning the prestigious Ag Robot Award! ?? These students designed and built an autonomous apple-picking robot that uses AI and robotics to identify, pick, and sort fruit with precision and efficiency. ???? Not only does this technology improve harvest efficiency, but it also helps support farmworkers by reducing labor-intensive tasks and filling critical labor gaps in the industry. Beyond their groundbreaking project, these students competed on an international stage, showcasing their skills in engineering, coding, and problem-solving to address real-world agricultural challenges. Their achievement highlights the growing role of ag-tech in shaping a more sustainable and productive future for farming. ???
