Yesterday, we celebrated the completion of the Derby-Shelton Bridge Pedestrian and Bicyclist Enhancements Project, a key link between Derby and Shelton that connects our communities and preserves historic character while supporting growth. ??♂? ??♀? ? The renovation of the bridge, designed by AECOM under contract to the NVCOG and constructed by Mohawk Northeast, Inc., includes improved lighting, wider sidewalks, a cycle track, and a second travel lane for a more accessible and appealing public space. Governor Lamont, Connecticut Department of Transportation Commissioner Garrett Eucalitto, Mayors Lauretti and DiMartino, and NVCOG Executive Director Rick Dunne gathered to mark this milestone. Thank you to the Connecticut Delegation and Jack Walsh, co-chair of the Naugatuck River Greenway Steering Committee, for their support. #Connecticut #Pedestrian #Bicyclist

Yesterday, we co-hosted the ColleCTive Climate Action Forum alongside six other COGs across Connecticut. Katie Scharf Dykes, Commissioner of CT Department of Energy and Environmental Protection and Bryan Garcia, CEO of the CT Green Bank, were the keynote speakers. Stakeholders shared valuable input through interactive workshops on four major sectors: clean transportation, sustainable waste management, decarbonizing buildings, and creating a climate-friendly electrical grid. This input will provide the basis for three regional Comprehensive Climate Action Plans to be developed in 2025. Learn more at https://nvcogct.gov/cprg. #ClimateAction #RegionalPlanning #Connecticut

Last night, we held our first public meeting fully in Spanish in collaboration with the HISPANIC COALITION OF GREATER WATERBURY INC. We discussed the Waterbury Residential Street Traffic Calming Study and NVCOG’s commitment to supporting the city’s efforts to address safety issues as part of our Vision Zero plan to eliminate traffic-related deaths and serious injuries by 2060. Our team is developing a process for residents to request changes on their local streets and how the City of Waterbury-Mayor's Office will respond. We’re gathering public input on perceived speed issue locations, preferred traffic calming interventions, and the best ways to submit requests.
