Nutrient Density for Everyone, Everywhere

关于我们

Our Nutrient Density Alliance is made up of key players and pioneers working to drive regenerative agriculture practices and outcomes, nutrient dense food, and improved human health. Our purpose is to ignite awareness and action around nutrient density to drive demand for a regenerative food system by empowering eaters to engage the direct connection between their health and the health of the food system. Let's work together to meaningfully define nutrient density in food, and activate eater demand and use that demand as a primary lever for food system transformation, including deep regenerative agriculture practices, in service of planetary wellbeing.

We have so much gratitude for the orgs doing incredible work in the #regenerativeagriculture & health space. ???? Exciting advancements are happening at Washington State University's Bread Lab! ?? They're pioneering efforts to create bread that is not only better for us but also better for the planet. The team is working with a unique wheat variety known as their "climate blend," engineered to thrive under the increasingly intense weather patterns caused by climate change. ?? What sets this wheat apart? It's cultivated using regenerative farming practices and boasts incredible genetic diversity, which enhances crop resilience. By growing a variety of wheat types, the Bread Lab is transforming our agricultural landscape and promoting biodiversity in farmers' fields. But it doesn't stop there! The focus is on taste, ensuring that these sustainable products are not only good for the environment but also delicious for consumers. ?? This innovative approach supports both climate resilience and nutritional improvement, showcasing how we can address pressing global challenges while enjoying the simple pleasure of bread! https://lnkd.in/gn3-p4iC

How do you communicate soil health = human health to consumers? This is an amazing case study of how one brand chose to share their sustainability story and highlight the benefits of #regenerativeagriculture to eaters (and perhaps #retailers #foodserviceprofessionals #dietitians) And yes, we agree that "The health of our bodies depends on how we steward the land." We hope to see #nutrientdensity testing that can highlight the improved nutrition in foods grown in concert with nature. Bravo to Lundberg Family Farms for leading the charge here on effective communications strategies! We hope others will follow suit so we can continue to build this movement.

The evidence that #regenerativeagriculture can improve #nutrientdensity is growing, and the food, agriculture, and farming communities are taking notice. We await these results from the Soil Heroes Foundation and plan to celebrate with a nutritious and delicious turnip soup! Got a recipe? Additional benefits shown here so far are higher yields and beautiful produce. Perhaps tastier as well?

These freshly harvested turnips are shaping the future of farming. How? By helping us prove that regenerative farming helps increase our food's nutrient density! Collected from more than 30 regenerative and conventional plots, we’ve now sent them to our farm lab to test for levels of amino acids, vitamins, proteins, minerals, and more. Even before we see the lab results, we’re already noticing interesting differences like: ?? no-till plots offered higher yields than tilled plots ?? companion planted plots had lower yields but prettier produce ?? the plots using our own biofertilizers fared better than the others We'll keep you updated on the lab findings here, of course, but you can learn more about our Nutrient Density Project here: https://lnkd.in/euMManE5

Industrial food production has done a number on the nutrient quality of our food, which can lead to a lack of satiety (which can lead to consuming more calories) and a lack of nutritional sufficiency. All that can result in compromised health. When we don't get the nutrients that the body needs to function...ahem...it doesn't function as optimally. ???? Thanks to one of our valued members WISEcode for the excellent article on this issue of "hidden hunger". ? "A big part of the problem comes from modern farming practices. In the race for higher yields, we’ve prioritized quantity over quality. With high-yield seeds, synthetic fertilizers, and pesticides, we’ve ramped up production but sacrificed the nutrient content of our food. " ?? They aptly identify #regenerativeagriculture as part of the solution to creating more biodiverse and #nutrientrich foods and make the case for how our health is inextricably linked to the health of the land. #hiddenhunger #biodiversity #planetaryhealth

Fascinating findings! It is encouraging to see how #regenerativeagriculture not only enhances #soilhealth but also boosts crop yields in the face of climate change. As we confront increasing pressures on our food systems, methods that enrich soil and support biodiversity are imperative to resilience. ?? And study after study, research paper after research paper, (or just ask a number of soil scientists) show that healthier soil creates more nutritious foods, which can ultimately serve human health. ? So glad to have Merge Impact as a member who continues to advocate for implementation of these sustainable solutions! If you want to collect your own data here, check out the services they offer.

We know that healthy soil with a #biodiverse microbiome is linked to a healthier human #gutmicrobiome. The way we grow food not only has an impact on our nutrient status but also affects how our microbiome functions, which can have huge implications for human health. ???? Brava to one of our valued members Basil's Harvest for continuing to highlight these connections and spreading the word on this important topic that will have benefits for our external and internal ecosystems. ???? Thanks to WholeFoods Magazine for amplifying this work. We hope more #retailers will step up and advocate around how #regenerative #organic and #climatesmart farming practices serve our soil and our health.

They are just one of the brands/businesses in our community dedicating to protecting our ecosystems and preserving #biodiversity. For instance, over "98% of their ingredients by weight are diversified,?like oats, flax, sunflower, and buckwheat, which are a great pollinator food source and has soil-health benefits as a cover crop.??" ?? What we know about healthy soil is that it usually produces more nutrient-rich food. ?? Thanks to #MensHealthMagazine for calling out products that support #planetary health. "Collaboration" and "strategic partnerships" are and will continue to be the bread and butter (regeneratively grown, of course) of this movement. They also happen to be core values of the work we do! ?? The below panel with one of our members, Anchor Ingredients Company at the Regrow Agriculture Resilience Summit sounds like it was a winner. Collaborating on #regenerativeagriculture efforts definitely is a win-win-win for more sustainable supply chains. And, we might add, a healthier and more nutritious supply chain as well. We are proud of one of our members dedicated to the cause:
