Congratulations to Kayla Gerardi, RN, who was recently presented with the DAISY Award! Kayla is a clinical nurse in Labor and Delivery who was nominated by a patient in labor with her first child. "Kayla is one of the main reasons I was able to safely deliver my baby boy," the patient said. Noting that she was anxious, overwhelmed and scared, she described Kayla as being kind, reassuring, thorough and attentive towards her and her family. She also said Kayla was her biggest advocate and made sure everyone on the care team knew and respected her wishes. When the patient required additional care overnight, Kayla stayed at the bedside administering medications, monitoring mother and baby, and reassuring the patient. When additional complications necessitated an emergency Cesarean section, Kayla opted to stay by her patient's side rather than handing her off to the day nurse at change of shift. "She could have left. It wasn't her responsibility to stay with me," the patient said. "She had already given report to the oncoming nurse, who also came to the operating room, but Kayla told me she wanted to make sure I was okay and didn't want me to be afraid. She comforted my husband and me through the C-section, and thankfully, a healthy baby boy was delivered. Even though labor and delivery did not go how I had wanted or planned, I can look back happily because of Kayla. I will forever be grateful to her and her work as a nurse." The DAISY Foundation rewards and celebrates the extraordinary clinical skill and compassionate care our nurses provide every day. Nominate a nurse today:?https://bit.ly/4bh0w4a

?? A Journey Worth Taking: Last week, we traveled an hour and 20 minutes to attend a job fair at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Plymouth, and it was worth every mile! Meeting the incredible staff and sharing NursingFront’s mission was an exciting opportunity to connect with a hospital system that has the reputation of truly valuing? its employees. Beth Israel Deaconess’s Boston campus ranks among the top 10 employers for nurses in Massachusetts, and the Plymouth campus also offers a strong work environment. With positive feedback on pay, benefits, and support, we were happy to take the time to meet some of their recruitment team. We invite nurses to share their own experiences and help us understand what matters most when it comes to being employed as a nurse. Such an inspiring reflection Jose Arnold Tariga, PhD, MSN, RN, CNE, NPD-BC, NE-BC, CPHQ, FFNMRCSI. It’s so true, closed doors often lead to unexpected opportunities. Trusting the process isn’t always easy, but your journey is a great reminder that every setback can be a step forward.
Transformational Nurse Educator & Professional Development Leader | Driving Excellence in Nursing Education & Workforce Development
Seventeen years ago, I took my first steps into the world of professional nursing, not knowing the twists and turns that lay ahead. Since then, I’ve lived and worked in three different countries, each with its own unique healthcare system, culture, and challenges. I’ve experienced moments of triumph and fulfillment, but also moments of doubt, setbacks, and unexpected detours. Some opportunities came at just the right time, propelling me forward. But some doors—ones I thought I wanted—shut firmly in my face. And let me be honest: in those moments, it didn’t feel like growth. It felt like rejection, disappointment, and at times, even failure. But looking back now, I realize that those closed doors didn’t stop me—they rerouted me. They led me to opportunities I never even knew existed, to lessons I needed to learn, and to people who would shape my journey in ways I never imagined. Without those redirections, I wouldn’t be where I am today. So, if you’re a nurse (or any professional) feeling uncertain about where you are right now—if you’re questioning whether you’re in the right specialty, if you’re second-guessing your path—that’s okay. Many of us have been there. Just stay true to your why. Trust the process, even when it doesn’t make sense in the moment. Growth doesn’t just happen when doors open. Sometimes, it happens when they close. You are being directed—or redirected—to exactly where you are meant to be. Just keep going! #Nurses #ProfessionalDevelopment #NursesOnLinkedIn #WorldOfNursing
