CASE STUDY: A 50-year-old patient sought treatment from a nurse practitioner for symptoms like fatigue, night sweats and weight loss. Despite abnormal lab results, the NP allegedly continued testosterone therapy without properly monitoring prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels. CASE STUDY: Was this nurse practitioner negligent? A college infirmary NP allegedly prescribed an antifungal medication to a clinic employee as a favor, telling him to follow up with his primary care provider. When the employee failed to get further monitoring, he developed liver failure and required a transplant. He sued the NP, and after six years of litigation, the case settled for $850,000.
