“The pressure healthcare leaders face to close nursing workforce gaps remains intense. Most US states have fewer than 10 nurses per 1,000 people, and a recent survey shows nearly 1 out of 3 nurses plan to leave their jobs. The expense of finding a qualified bedside nurse to fill an opening also is climbing. In 2023, the cost of turnover of a hospital-based registered nurse totaled $56,300, on average.” There is a silly idea that is current that the only acceptable solution is to only hire an internal team and exclusively control 100% of their time. In reality, that is a mark very few hiring teams can hit and sustain consistently. There is a variety of reasons that #nurses change jobs or leave a team that are outside of a managers control. Given this data, we have to change our perspective on how we staff.
