Deepening our international collaborations and advancing global research are top priorities for Northwestern University. Yesterday, we hosted a delegation from National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University for a full day of collaborative discussions and knowledge exchange across our Evanston and Chicago campuses. Our agenda was packed with sessions that span critical areas of innovation, research, medicine, engineering, computer science, and more, with breakout sessions covering smart healthcare, biomedical devices, big data & AI in medicine, and chip design & memory. We look forward to following up on our productive discussions and creating new global innovation opportunities!

We are excited to announce the continuation of our collaborations with National Taiwan University (NTU), the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Chicago (TECO), and the Friends of Taiwan Foundation!????? Last week, we signed the renewal of our MOU with NTU, a significant step in expanding our collaborations and a signal to the strength and mutual interest in the partnership. This agreement, with the financial support from TECO and Friends of Taiwan Foundation, opens up new opportunities for our students and faculty. Last week, we welcomed Laurel Rosch and Martha Cooper to campus to showcase the outstanding work of Northwestern’s 2024 IREP scholars Elisabeth Khatchidze and Ma?lys Raffin in the Poeppelmeier?Research Group and Kanatzidis?Research Group labs, respectively. ? Northwestern University's partnership with the Big Ten Academic Alliance and the CMI Réseau FIGURE in France brings these talented international students to campus, providing exceptional research and cross-cultural exchange opportunities. At the end of May, we welcomed colleagues from Politecnico di Milano in Italy to our Evanston campus. The visit was filled with productive meetings and discussions focused on highlighting existing ties and exploring new opportunities for collaboration in research and academic programs. Vice-Rector for International Affairs Ilaria Valente and Rector’s Delegate for International Relationships with North America Gianluca Valenti met with McCormick School of Engineering faculty members, including representatives from the Departments of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and the Architectural Engineering and Design Program. We also had the opportunity to introduce our guests to the Segal Design Institute at Northwestern University and its innovative approach to engineering design education. Our visitors were joined by Marcello Alecci from the Consulate General of Italy in Chicago.

At Northwestern University, we keep the spirit of curiosity alive and foster meaningful connections across our university. Yesterday, about 60 staff members of the #OneWorldOneNorthwestern community came together to hear from colleagues Kate Klein (Northwestern Havey Institute for Global Health), and Seth Meisel and Christine Fiorite (Northwestern University School of Professional Studies) about the different international programs and activities their respective units administer and organize.

This week, we were delighted to welcome (back) the newly appointed German Deputy Consul General Gabriela Bennemann to our beautiful Evanston campus. Roughly four decades ago, Gabriela Bennemann spent two weeks at Northwestern for an orientation for DAAD Scholars (German Academic Exchange Service ), before embarking on an exchange-year at the University of Tennessee.
