On October 19, 2024, BCLA hosted “Sustainable Biotech: Shaping the Future of LA’s Biotech” at BioscienceLA, bringing together scientists, industry leaders, policymakers, and sustainability advocates to explore biotechnology’s role in environmental responsibility. The event featured an inspiring keynote urging biotech to embrace sustainability as both an opportunity and a responsibility followed by two engaging panels. The first panel, “Innovation and Challenges in Biotechnology for Sustainability”, highlighted breakthroughs in biodegradable materials, enzyme engineering, and eco-friendly pollination. The second panel, “Policy, Regulation, and Future Directions in Sustainable Biotechnology”, discussed addressing regulatory challenges, greenwashing, and the need for robust standards. The day concluded with a mentorship lunch and a networking happy hour hosted by Nucleate Los Angeles, fostering connections with industry leaders.
