Decision Support Systems Laboratory (DSS lab) is one of the labs of the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering in National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), the oldest and most prestigious academic institute in Greece. DSS lab is a multidisciplinary scientific unit which carries out research and development activities providing management and decision support services on complex business, societal and technical problems across a range of scientific domains. DSS lab was established in 1984 and since then, it is growing constantly and expanding its spectrum of activities and geographical reach. Today, it brings together a team of more than 80 highly qualified researchers including faculty members, senior domain experts, PhD candidates and MSc students.

Dimitriou attended the ArcGIS Greece - Cyprus 2024 User Conference and presented the recent publication ‘Assessing the adoption level of solar PV installations, on district scale of urban environment' and the photovoltaic potential map, which was developed in the context of BUILDSPACE Project.
?? Last month, project partner DSS Lab, EPU-NTUA attended the ArcGIS Greece - Cyprus 2024 User Conference, which took place on 23 and 24 October in Athens, Greece. The aim of the event, which is organised every year by Marathon data systems, is to bring together professionals, academics and specialists in the field of #geoinformatics in order to exchange ideas and practices on the use of ArcGIS, as well as present their work and applications. During the conference, Iason C. Dimitriou, from the NTUA team, presented the recent publication ‘Assessing the adoption level of solar PV installations, on district scale of urban environment’ and the photovoltaic potential map, which was developed in the context of the BUILDSPACE Project. ????? Through the utilisation of Geographical Information Systems (GIS), NTUA was able to contribute to BUILDSPACE Service 3 by creating a #SolarMap of the municipality of Riga, Latvia. Indeed, SE3. Building Environment Climate Scenarios aims to estimate current and future building #energydemand under different #climatescenarios, while promoting retrofitting strategies and solar PV development. ?? ?National Technical University of Athens and IPTO-Independent Power Transmission Operator sign Memorandum of Understanding to Advance European Energy Data Innovation through Data Space Technologies. The National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Independent Power Transmission Operator (IPTO) in the context of ENERSHARE project, an EU-funded initiative creating a secure, accessible energy data space for Europe. Given that IPTO is external to the EnerShare consortium, this MoU establishes a strategic collaboration to drive innovation in energy data sharing in the energy sector. Through this partnership, IPTO’s datasets from the “Operation & Market Files API” will be accessible within the EnerShare Data Space, fostering transparency and supporting the EU’s vision for a unified energy data space. These datasets contain valuable insights on Greece’s energy operations, market dynamics, and grid performance, therefore supporting the EU’s vision for a unified energy data space by providing energy stakeholders across sectors with access to accurate, actionable information. This initiative places Greece at the forefront of sustainable, data-driven energy solutions for Europe. Hence, the country strengthens its role in Europe’s energy transition but also leads by example in creating a data-rich environment where new, sustainable solutions can be developed, tested, and scaled continent-wide. ??Together, National Technical University of Athens, IPTO-Independent Power Transmission Operator , and ENERSHARE are connecting Europe’s energy future! ?? What are the Energy Transition #challenges for young people?? How POWERYOUTH is trying to tackle them?
?? The energy transition presents many #challenges, especially when it comes to involving young people. The POWERYOUTH project is actively working to overcome these barriers and empower youth to play a leading role in shaping a sustainable energy future. ?? Challenge n.1: #legal and #regulatory obstacles that make it difficult for young people to participate in energy communities. Through our in-depth assessments (WP2), POWERYOUTH is helping identify these barriers across Europe. We’re also providing EU policy recommendations with the aim of helping policymakers to ensure that national frameworks promote community-driven energy initiatives that prioritize youth participation. ??Challenge n.2: lack of #accessiblepathways for youth to engage in the energy sector. To tackle this, POWERYOUTH is developing business models and protocols (WP3) that will guide the creation and operation of youth-led energy communities. These tools are designed to help young people understand how to get involved and maximize the economic, environmental, and social impact of their efforts. ??Challenge n.3: youth often face #limitedaccess to education and training in the energy field. Through our capacity-building programs (WP4), we aim to equip young people with the skills and knowledge needed to lead the energy transition. ??
