关于我们
Launched in 2019, NTT Research is a Silicon Valley-based startup dedicated to conducting fundamental research in the fields of physics, cryptography and medical informatics with a singular goal: to Upgrade Reality for all. Today, NTT Research is home to three foundational research laboratories, including the: Physics & Informatics Lab: The PHI Lab’s mission is to build simple, efficient and practical solvers for real-world problems facing an information-intensive society. It exists to rethink “computation” with the fundamental principles of quantum physics and brain science while simultaneously developing hardware. Its research focus areas include Algorithms & Applications, Neural Networks, Quantum Simulations and Photonic Accelerator Hardware. Cryptography & Information Security Lab: The CIS Lab aims to create a more secure future for all with the goal of becoming the world’s premier cryptographic research laboratory. At NTT Research, the CIS Lab views cryptography as an essential building block for a smarter world. CIS Lab researchers focus on foundational research problems to deliver findings and breakthroughs with the greatest long-term impact as they explore attribute-based encryption, homomorphic encryption and functional encryption. Medical & Health Informatics Lab: The MEI Lab is conducting fundamental research with a vision towards a future of improved health outcomes through a more personalized, preventive, predictive and participatory practice of medicine. The lab aims to individualize and revolutionize healthcare through the application of Bio Digital Twin technologies. The MEI Lab’s initial focus is the development of an organ systems-level Cardiovascular Bio Digital Twin (CV BioDT) as well as an in vitro Heart-on-a-Chip digital twin platform. One day, by addressing the complex interactions necessary to represent these conditions of unmet medical need, the overall Bio Digital Twin will be developed.

The advancement of #GenAI has driven exciting growth in enterprise applications across industries and encouraged further development of emerging tech, but this transformation presents some challenges given the increased computing power and potential biases associated with AI models. To address these challenges, NTT RESEARCH's Physics & Informatics (PHI) Lab has proposed a method to overcome bias in deep neural networks, a type of #AI. These findings represent a crucial breakthrough given their potential to decrease the presence of bias in AI models used in hiring processes, the criminal justice system and the healthcare industry. Non-biased AI models have the capacity to improve productivity for these applications as well. NTT Research’s approach involves the implementation of a corrective algorithm called Connectivity-Based Fine-Tuning (CBFT) to overcome the limitations of naive fine-tuning, which is the usual method of decreasing a deep neural network’s errors. Chris Shaw, our CMO, breaks down the implications of this research and discusses the ethical concerns surrounding AI in his article in Unite.AI. In collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, NTT RESEARCH researchers have developed a #quantum-based security protocol to protect confidential patient data and proprietary deep-learning models during cloud-based computations. By encoding data into laser light, the protocol leverages quantum mechanics to prevent attackers from copying or intercepting information. The technique maintains 96 percent accuracy while ensuring robust security measures. This innovation enables the use of powerful deep-learning models without compromising data privacy or the proprietary nature of the models.
