In August, the Lendlease team at Powerhouse Parramatta hosted a site tour for National Association of Women in Construction (AU) (NAWIC) members. The tour was led by an all women group of senior project, site and graduate engineers, who each shared a variety of unique project highlights along with their experience working on such a significant project. Powerhouse Parramatta is one of 21 NSW Government projects participating in a pilot program designed to increase the number of women on site. The pilot involves increased targets of 4% for women in trade – up from existing targets of 2%?– and a new target of 7% for women in non-traditional roles. ?? Powerhouse Parramatta is currently meeting the 7% women in non-traditional role target across Lendlease and subcontractor employees, with 33% of the salaried workforce represented by women! #nawic #powerhouseparramatta Infrastructure NSW NSW Government

We are proud to support the Australian Constructors Association (ACA)’s Attract initiative – which will encourage mid-career women to consider applying their existing experience toward a career in construction. This initiative is a successful recipient in Year 2 of our Industry Innovation Program ?? https://lnkd.in/gd-3QSF6?

We're set to launch an exciting new initiative, supported by the NSW Government’s Women in Construction Industry Innovation Program grant, to attract mid-career women to the construction industry. This initiative will see major contractors come together to offer women the chance to experience what a career in construction is really like. Many women don’t realise that the skills they have gained in other industries can easily transfer to construction. Bringing these women into our industry can accelerate the cultural shift we desperately need—it’s about more than just gender balance. The Attract Initiative was developed by our Culture Committee, led by JAYNE WHITNEY from John Holland. It is designed to showcase the industry’s evolving culture and the abundant opportunities available to women. “As women, we often hesitate to apply for roles unless we have direct experience. We want women to know that construction welcomes them and that their experience in other fields is valuable. There’s a role for everyone in this industry." Our Attract initiative is part of a broader pledge by member companies to drive cultural change within the industry. In addition to attracting a new wave of talent, efforts to establish workplace flexibility policies and achieve the Workplace Gender Equality Agency Employer of Choice for Gender Equality citation are well underway. Already, four ACA member companies have achieved this citation, demonstrating significant progress toward the ACA’s pledge to create a more inclusive industry from the ground up. ACA thanks the NSW Government for supporting the Attract initiative. The NSW Government’s Industry Innovation Program is one of four priority actions for the Women in Construction Program. The grants program was established to fund innovative ideas in industry to support the creation of inclusive workplace cultures, attract and retain women to the construction sector, support female employees and women in leadership roles. Bek always wanted to operate machines – she grew up tinkering with trucks and machinery – and after having three sons, decided to start her career in the construction sector. She gained experience on a road construction job, then worked at a local council depot with various heavy machinery. She has proudly earned her tickets for driving a bobcat, roller, and traffic control, and a forklift license. She continues to train on different machines. Bek’s message to young women: "It doesn’t matter where you come from; you can do anything you set your mind to." As part of the Apprenticeship and Traineeship Roadmap, the NSW Government is working to increase participation in apprenticeships and traineeships, and we’re passionate about encouraging more women like Bek to take up a trade.
