???????????? ??????????????????: A community-based program in San Diego County provides high-quality tutoring to youth currently or previously in foster care. The program, called Tutor Connection, is operated by San Diego County Office of Education’s Foster Youth Services Coordinating Program. ?????? ???? ??????????: Tutors in Tutor Connection are students enrolled in a teacher education course within the CSUSM School of Education at California State University San Marcos and it’s embedded in a leadership course at San Diego State University. "The course at CSU San Marcos is designed as a service-learning course, with the tutoring as a component of Community Service Learning. Co-taught by a professor and an SDCOE employee, the curriculum includes instruction on tutoring from an educational framework and is complemented with information about trauma, abuse, neglect, foster care, professional boundaries, behavioral management and the laws related to the education of students in foster care." ?????????????????? ????????????: "Michael, a former student, shared his story and the impact the class had on him and his family as they opened their home to three siblings in foster care. The class made him realize that sharing his home with foster youth, specifically siblings, was a choice he wanted to make to help others. 'Thank you for being involved in getting good people to help kids in foster care,' he said." ???Tutoring News: ???????????? ?????? ???????? ???? ????????????????: ?? ???????????????????? ?????? ??????????????! District Administration shares a new op-ed with key recommendations for #K12 leaders who want to implement effective high-impact tutoring programs. Following the White House’s recent success in recruiting 250,000 tutors, Barbara Condliffe and Shira Mattera from MDRC emphasize that merely expanding access to tutoring is not enough—successful implementation is essential for reversing learning loss and bridging equity gaps post-pandemic. We couldn't agree more! They outline four strategies for effective implementation: 1. ???????? ?????? ??????????????????????: Addressing #chronicabsenteeism is critical, as it can interfere with students’ access to tutoring. Schools should plan strategies to reduce absenteeism and accommodate for attendance issues. 2. ???? ?????????????????? ???????? ????????????????????: Integrating tutoring without disrupting core instructional time requires careful scheduling, which might include setting aside specific periods or assigning tutoring as a class to maintain student engagement. 3. ?????????? ?????????? ????????????????????: Ensuring all staff members understand and support the tutoring initiative’s goals is vital. Involving the whole team in program planning and sharing data can help foster this buy-in. 4. ?????????? ?????? ?????? ???????????????? ??????????????: Connecting the new tutoring program to existing structures (like student identification and progress tracking) can ease the transition and strengthen program integration. The authors state, “While the above strategies are not always easy to execute and require time and money, committing to these strategies will give new high-dosage tutoring initiatives the best shot at realizing their potential.” Full article here: https://lnkd.in/dTjspN87
