Join NSBP for the Innovate Seminar this month on Monday, March 31st at 4 pm EST. Zoom registration required: https://lnkd.in/eXig5Rnq. Title: "Advancing Radio Telescope Calibration with Drones" Abstract: The driving force of cosmic expansion, dark energy, remains a fundamental mystery in our understanding of the physics of our universe. A critical step in unveiling the properties of dark energy will come from experimental evidence. In this talk, I will discuss how radio telescopes are being used to reveal the properties of dark energy via hydrogen intensity mapping. I will also elaborate on the importance of precise instrument calibratio #RadioTelescope #DroneTechnology #PhysicsSeminar #AstrophysicsResearch #YaleUniversity #InnovationInScience #NSBPEvents #NSBP #InnovateSeminar #MorganCole #Yalen for these kinds of measurements, and how a new piece of technology has gained popularity in the field of telescope calibration — drones. I also hope to provide a comprehensive overview of the various aspects of my drone-based radio telescope calibration projects during the last several months, and over the next several years. Morgan is a second-year PhD student in Physics at Yale University, focusing on experimental astrophysics and instrumentation. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Physics from UC Berkeley in 2023, with minors in Astrophysics and STEM Education. Morgan has interned at the Simons Foundation's Center for Computational Astrophysics, CERN, and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. She has been a member of the NSBP since 2020 and previously served on the NSBP Student Council. #RadioTelescope #DroneTechnology #PhysicsSeminar #AstrophysicsResearch #YaleUniversity #InnovationInScience #NSBPEvents #NSBP #InnovateSeminar #MorganCole #Yale

Dr. Carol Scarlett is a Nuclear and Particle Physicist who conducts research at the nexus of exotic particle searches and nuclear structure. In 2016, she has founded a company, Axion Technologies LLC., to take laboratory work and develop industrial applications. She continues to actively research topics germane to the company's products, which could impact on the future of areas as diverse as computing and clean energy production. Recently, Dr. Scarlett has focused on methods for demonstrating that nuclei respond to exotic matter, including one Dark Matter candidate, the Axion. Her upcoming publication on an effort to create exotic beams will introduce novel experimental techniques and will have implications for future research in both Nuclear Physics and Dark Matter. #WomensHistoryMonth #CarolScarlett #NuclearPhysics #Axion #DarkMatter #ScienceInnovators #NSBP #NuclearResearch #ParticlePhysics #WomenInScience #ResearchInnovation #DarkMatterResearch #ScienceAndTechnology #STEMWomen #ScientificCommunity #ExoticParticles

A new report, the Vision for American Science and Technology (#VAST), has been released, outlining policy recommendations to strengthen the U.S. science and technology enterprise. The report addresses key areas such as workforce development, public-private partnerships, and fundamental research. We're pleased to note that AIP CEO Michael Moloney was invited to contribute to the VAST Task Force as a private citizen, bringing his expertise to the discussion. "I was honored to bring my perspective to this important work not only as a scientist, but as a citizen and a STEMM nonprofit leader," said Moloney. The VAST report, spearheaded by the Science & Technology Action Committee (STAC), aims to provide a roadmap for maintaining U.S. leadership in science and technology.
