Afrotech’ 24 | Data Science & Analytics Student at Case Western Reserve University

?? As I reach the halfway mark of my final year as an undergrad, I find myself reflecting on the experiences that have shaped my journey—especially my internship as a Data Analytics Intern at Embrace Pet Insurance. At Embrace, I had the incredible opportunity to work alongside Rebecca Klingensmith and the talented BI Team, leveraging tools like BigQuery, Google Analytics 4, and Power BI to take on exciting challenges in website optimization. ??? ?? Collaborating with the marketing department, I helped develop GA4 BI reports, enabling self-service analytics that allowed teams to gain valuable insights into website performance and customer decision-making. From creating actionable reports for stakeholders to diving deep into data strategy, I experienced firsthand the importance of aligning technical solutions with business goals. ??Working alongside data analysts and engineers, I strengthened my analytics skills and learned how to transform complex data into meaningful narratives. I’m incredibly grateful for the mentorship and support from the Embrace team, and I’m excited to bring these insights into future opportunities! ??

? Investing in the Future: A Reflection on September 7, 2024 ? On the morning of September 7th, we were reminded of a vital truth we want to share with everyone: the children are our future, and investing in them is key to building a better tomorrow. A group of our dedicated and talented members—Mark Wani, Justen Pippens, Wayzaro Ariella-yve Taylor, Amarachi Osaji, and Daniel—gathered at ThinkBox to participate in a Student Panel for Northeast Ohio's NSBE JR Chapter. The event, skillfully organized by Ramona Lowery-Ferrell & Schuyler Moore, was led by Tosa Odiase, guiding a dynamic discussion. Our students shared invaluable insights on navigating the college experience as African-American individuals, emphasizing the skills and values that foster both academic and cultural excellence. Speaking to an audience ranging from ages 5 to 18 within the Greater Cleveland community was a humbling and eye-opening experience—demonstrating the profound impact we can make by simply sharing our stories. We are truly grateful for this opportunity and remain committed to spreading knowledge, empowering our youth, and positively impacting the community—upholding the mission of NSBE every step of the way. #NSBE #WeAreTheFuture #CWRU

? Event Recap: Becoming a Professional ? Yesterday, we had the pleasure of hosting our first recruiting info session of the semester, “Becoming a Professional”. The goal of this event was to help students prepare and build momentum for one of our biggest events of the semester: the Night of Networking this Wednesday and CWRU Career Center’s Career fair this Thursday. We know that recruitment events can often bring feelings of anxiety for many students, so our aim was to provide them with the tools and confidence to be as prepared as possible. ?? A special thank you to: - Nina Lafko from Park Technologies for sharing insights into her company and offering valuable advice for navigating the upcoming recruiting season. - Ariel McWhorter, former NSBE president and CWRU alumna, now at Procter & Gamble, for her tips on how to stand out as an intern or fall applicant. -Stephen Furlow-Munn from OMA for delivering practical strategies on how to confidently approach recruiters and master that all-important elevator pitch. Lastly, thanks to Darin Hall (杜汉文), our historian, for capturing the night’s highlights. ?? We’re excited to continue helping our members grow and succeed in their career journeys!
