When Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans in 2005, Chef Gary LeBlanc discovered he had a strong motivation to help people affected by natural disasters by providing food. That's when Mercy Chefs was born - a non-profit organization with a network of 15,000 volunteers that has served over 25 million restaurant-quality meals to people affected by disasters since its inception in 2006. We were honored to recognize Chef Gary LeBlanc, founder of Mercy Chefs, during our 2024 Restaurant Advance Leadership Awards with the Community Champion award, sponsored by American Express.
