The Collective is a curated convening for people of color who are committed to their professional growth, giving and receiving support, and networking with like-minded peers. We host monthly sessions, including panel discussions, guest speakers, mentorship circles, workshops, and locally relevant programs, all focused on professionals of color. Members outside of NJ are welcomed. Member benefits include: BIPOC Focused and Centered Space Formal Professional and Leadership Development Mentoring – Peer and Executive Facilitated Peer-to-Peer Time with Solution Mapping Networking One-on-One Coaching, Holistic and Executive Group Mental Wellness Affinity Groups: Men of Color, Emerging Leaders, C-Suite; supporting Affinity groups from other organizations: Environmentalists, Consultants, Arts Professionals Exclusive membership directory access, Scholarships & Discounts to partner events and more.

    Black women in nonprofit leadership are leaving the sector due to overwhelming challenges, including lower compensation, increased demands from funders, and microaggressions. A group in Washington, D.C. is working to address this crisis by commissioning the "Thrive as They Lead" report, highlighting the negative impacts on their health and financial stability. The initiative aims to raise $3-4 million to implement solutions that support Black women leaders and prevent further exits. https://lnkd.in/gsHKREyb

    As consultants, things can be very lonely out there for us sometimes. This past weekend, I attended the Nonprofit Professionals of Color Collective inaugural National convention and I am so glad I registered. Aside from the great learnings I got from the consultant track as a newbie to consulting, the networking and building community stood out for me. It was inspiring to have spent 2 days with fellow consultants and nonprofit professionals of color. Throughout the event, all I saw was all positive vibes and support for each other. I met so many amazing people, including fellow consultants that I have been in some online spaces with for some months now such as Nija Rivera, MPH (a fellow Freelance Grant Writing Academy member), and Kacy O'Brien a fellow member of the Build Better Together (Kacy, we both forgot to take pictures). This event was so healing and energetic for me and will be remembered in my books for years.     For every one non-profit. There are 5 funders requesting a million tasks…. ”Please fax us your most recent 990.” ?"Fill out this quick 20-page grant application." "Could you send us a custom report on that project by tomorrow?" But, what a lot of funders don’t realize or understand is that behind every ask There are many hidden costs ?? ??? ”Please fax us your most recent 990.” ? Nonprofit Cost: Searching the office for a fax machine from the 90s, or spending an hour searching for an online fax service that doesn't look like a phishing scam.? ??? "Fill out this quick 20-page grant application." ? Nonprofit Cost: Canceling all plans for the week, marathon typing sessions, and a hefty caffeine intake to stay alert. ??? "Could you send us a custom report on that project by tomorrow?" ? Nonprofit Cost: Redirecting half the staff from their actual jobs to become data analysts overnight. Plus, lots of coffee.? Although this is a light-hearted way to demonstrate the hidden costs of asks from a funder.? It underscores one key thing… → Every request has its price. While the intentions of the funders are always good, the costs for non-profits can add up in unexpected ways! It’s so important that funders keep their asks & requests open and realistic.? While non-profits stay transparent about what it takes to meet those asks.?
