This week, NAMI Pinellas visited the Florida State Capitol in Tallahassee to participate in both Florida Nonprofit Day and Florida Behavorial Health Day. Advocacy is an essential pillar of our mission to improve the mental health and quality of life of individuals and their families affected by mental illness. The trip was an opportunity for our Executive Director, Siomara Bridges-Mata, and our Deputy Director, Camille Hebting, to visit with our Pinellas County legislative delegation, and speak to the importance of continued funding for the FREE Peer and Family programs that we provide to the local community. We want to thank Senator Darryl Rouson, Anthony Serge from the office of Senator Ed Hooper, Corey Recvlohe from the office of Representative Adam Anderson, Jordan Watters from the office of Senator Nick DiCeglie, Representative Lindsay Cross, the office of Representative Kimberly Berfield, Representative Berny Jacques, Tristan Sommer from the office of Representative Linda Chaney, and Representative Michele K. Rayner, Esq. for meeting with us. We look forward to continuing to impact your constituents in a positive and meaningful way! The inaugural Florida Nonprofit Day was planned by Florida Nonprofit Alliance, to reinforce the vital role nonprofits play in Florida's economy and communities. Florida Behavorial Health Day is an annual event of the Florida Behavioral Health Association, supported by NAMI Florida and the Florida Mental Health Advocacy Coalition, which NAMI Pinellas is an active member of. #BehavorialHealthDay #Advocacy #MentalHealthMatters

"Out of the mountain of despair, a stone of hope." — Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Today, we honor the legacy of Dr. King; every day, we uphold his legacy by providing the hope that the individuals affected by mental illness and their families need to see that recovery is possible. As Dr. King famously said, “the time is always right to do what is right.” Beyond his incredible leadership, we are thankful for all those who are following in his footsteps by being of service to others. Happy #MLKDay to all!
