Novum’s collaborative process helps in developing a technical solution to meet the design intent while maintaining a predetermined budget. The unique canopies at Pier 66 in Fort Lauderdale, FL exemplify the value of this collaborative process to deliver custom structural glass and steel solutions. The canopies are all irregularly shaped, featuring curved glass via Novum’s Point Supported Glass System. The largest canopy spans approximately 216’ in length, with a width of 56’ at its largest extents. Celebrating this week, another one of our innovative Structural Systems, Beam to Beam. Featuring elegant mechanical framing methods, the BB-System typically features hollow profiles as continuous primary beams with secondary infill members. Novum’s Beam to Beam System is an affordable, yet sophisticated system that is frequently used in facades and canopies, which are planar in nature. Fasteners are typically hidden or architecturally exposed, and direct cladding is easily accomplished. Novum’s BB-System is a contemporary nodeless system typically using mild steel hollow sections as structural members and can achieve hairline connections without exposed or visible welds. For cladding, the BB-System integrates seamlessly with all Novum Glazing and Membrane Systems. Readily designed to achieve modest angular changes in surface plans, the beam to beam system is custom fabricated at our own ISO9001 certified manufacturing facilities in Menomonee Falls, WI. Finish options include high performance polyurethanes or polyester powder coating over hot dip galvanizing. Alternatively, materials can be also without galvanizing, or stainless steel. The system ships compactly and field assembly requires no welding. Due to its design, and excellent tolerances, direct cladding is easily accomplished. The revitalization at the Shannon Library at the University of Virginia features two matching skylights which were engineered, fabricated, and installed by Novum. The skylight solution was developed to provide natural light into the library, enhancing the experience of students and faculty. Rectangular in shape, the skylights both measure 49’ long by 33’ wide, with approximately 3’ of rise. Repositioning projects offer a unique opportunity to revitalize existing spaces, while preserving the existing structure. The Latitude campus in Parsippany, NJ features two symmetrical buildings with workspaces for corporate health, wellness, and lifestyle. Novum developed a solution to create a space which joins the existing buildings to enhance the campus. The final result features the stunning structural glass “connector” atrium. Novum engineered, fabricated, and installed two structural glass and steel canopies at the UNC Surgical Center & Children’s Hospital in Chapel Hill, NC. Rectangular in shape, the Surgical Hospital canopy spans 123′ long by 32′ wide. The Children’s Hospital canopy features a rectangular front section, with a trapezoidal back section conjoining to the front. The canopies utilize Novum’s Point Supported Glass System, with the glass underslung from the support via Novum’s Architecturally Exposed Steel System. In total, the canopies provide 7,210 sq ft in coverage for visitors. #novum #canopy #structuralglass

Novum played a key role in the redevelopment of Motherwell Station, aiming to create a more comfortable and efficient entryway to the Glasgow City Region. Our team was contracted to engineer, fabricate, supply, and install the entrance canopy, facade, and rooflight. Additionally, we were responsible for constructing the shop front with a set of doors, and the distinctive glass box located on the platform. Rectangular in shape, the canopy measures approximately 53′ long by 19′ wide. Novum’s Edge Clamped Glass System is utilized for the glazing, featuring laminated glass with a clear SGP interlayer and a frit pattern.
